2012 in review

We thought it would be good to show the audience we have had over the last few months, and to say thanks to all those who have helped to make this a thriving community in the short time we have been on the go.

A Happy New year to all from everyone at TSFM.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

About 55,000 tourists visit Liechtenstein every year. This blog was viewed about 3,500,000 times in 2012. If it were Liechtenstein, it would take about 64 years for that many people to see it. Your blog had more visits than a small country in Europe!

  1. Celtic announce today that they have a new sponsor starting in summer for the next 3 years. Quite a big deal to most fans who see the sponsorship part of the standalone plan which distances ourselves even further from the newclub. I have been watching SSN all day and hardly a mention. Chuckles Green speaks out and it is repetitive headline news, as I speak STV news at 6 run with the same story and no mention of the Celtic deal. Looks like they do not want to run with any positive news from the east end of the city. the media really sickens me at times.

The cast list really shocked me at the time and it was an incredible contribution by Corsica.

I have a copy of the post on the hard drive of my old computer and I have also pasted and copied it on TSFM a few posts back.
From memory Mr Green, Mr Whyte Mr Ellis and Mr Johnson were there
I know there was at least one more equally interesting participant there but I’d need to check to be sure.
Maybe someone else has it to hand and can save me the hassle.

I remember thinking at the time that the meeting involved three distinct management regimes of the team who play at Ibrox – even though they were either not meant to know each other or were actively threatening to sue each other – in public!

It all cfrystallised my view that the Craig Whyte episode was part of the plan to shed the debt by the previous regime and just didn’t quite work out.

I’d wager Craig has it all on the same machine he used to catch Grier.

what a difference a day makes

Jan 8: “Rangers will return to the top flight. Rangers will take a seat at the head of the table where, despite the latest insult of being shut out of reconstruction talks, we will act with the good of Scottish football in mind.”

Jan 9: “The Rangers Chief Executive Charles Green will recommend Rangers try to leave Scotland if 12-12-18 reconstruction plans are pushed through:

And as only associate members they have, quite rightly, no say in what the clubs decide to do

    Time to cash in?
    —————————————————————————————————————————-

Is this Jim’s first taste of his boss talking with forked tongue being that presumably Mr Charles okayed Jim’s madien ‘offishul T’Rangers’ article.

Suck it up big boy there will be more of this to come 🙂

  4. If Chas wants to leave so badly why did he negotiate for ten days to gain entry to Division 3.
Oh and I can see national associations queuing up all over Europe to beg ‘The Rangers’ to join their league.

  5. On what planet does a brand new football club, which has just been granted a place (above more worthy clubs) in the lowest teir of a league system, start issuing threats to all the other clubs and governors of said system of quitting should their reconstruction plans not be deemed suitable to aforementioned club and no-one from either clubs nor the governors themselves says a goddam thing ?

And on which planet does this impotent threat become headline news above new signings and sponsorship deals in the first teir ?

As I have repeated oft times before, this ungrateful upstart of a club needs to be reigned in and put in its (rightful ?) place before…..well…before myself and many, many other fans of Scottish football do a Duncan Bannatyne and say ” I’m out!”.

As for the SFA, SPL and SFL, I leave you with a clever quote from one Albert Einstein.

“Whoever is careless with the truth in small matters cannot be trusted with important matters.”

  6. “… my advice to the board of Rangers is the quicker we can leave Scottish football the better.”

Perhaps LNS can be helpful in that respect. Fingers crossed, Mr Green.

Palacio – CFC get a new drink-based logo on their shirt, owned by the C&C Group who also own the drink-based logo on TRFC’s shirts? Hardly groundbreaking.

What did you expect – Lennon to go on the telly and say, out loud, what a good idea it was to distance themselves from TRFC? 🙂

Well that’s that, I have now officially retired and all thanks to this blog! Right, enough moping…

Wee question for you all: what do Charles Green, Craig Whyte, Dave King and Andrew Ellis all have in common?
That’s right they all own property and have investments in the Republic of South Africa. What a coincidence, eh?

What’s that I hear? You would like another coincidence? Well, okay, how about they have all at various times
threatened to sue each other and other players in this farce but curiously not a single writ has been delivered.
Ask your uncle Max (Clifford) about that little deflection trick…

Another coincidence? How about they were all in Switzerland this week?

As my grandson’s favourite comedian would say “what are the chances of that?”

Angus, if you read my post correctly I said it was a big Deal for Celtic supporters. maybe not for you. It may not even be groundbreaking, but a improved 3 year deal superior to the Tennents one, must be good, taking in the financial climate, no?
As for your other point, whathas Lennon got to do with my post? i was merely stating the media bias to wards credible news and bull###t.

I agree with this, it is a smokescreen, putting across the message that they are the victims again, all part of the plan before the switcheroo up a division. Cmon Celtic / Aberdeen call them out and throw a spanner in the works. Vote for the status quo and add playoffs.
    ——————————————————————————————————————

First up, every club bar 3 (?) voted against a fast track for tRFC not 6 months ago….so why would it be up to Celtic (who have spent a century voting with RFC) and Aberdeen to throw a spanner in the works?

This is the problem with conspiracy theories….whatever happens fits the theory that everybody is either pro-Rangers, anti-Celtic or somewhere on that fictitious continuum …and so the poisonous dynamic relentlessly haunts Scottish Football, even when one half is dead!

  15. Chuckles and Sevco Walking Away !

All of a sudden I’m in favour of the current reconstruction proposal.

Bit late, but the above news really does make it a Happy New Year 🙂

  16. Reconstruction and the threat from Charles Green. It is my opinion that at some point during all the hocus pocus, rule bending, rule breaking and new rule generation that followed the cesarian birth of TRFC in the summer and the forceing of the infant sevco into the sfl league 3 Mr Green was promised that after 1 year in the lowest division his incarnation would be magically transported to the Top flight. Mr Longmuir was put in charge of this and his remit was to oil the wheels of reconstruction to make it so. Alas, some people at Ibrokes, namely new signings could not keep wheescht and happily spouted that they would be playing in the top league within one season. Cat escapes from bag. This allied to Mr Greens penchant for a wee tirade and a threat now and then and his willingness to boycott games at the drop of a hat has maybe sparked someone into action. Maybe someone somewhere in the corridors of power has finally cottoned on to the fact that Mr Green is in fact the biggest trouble maker this country has ever had at the helm of any club and has cancelled Mr Longmuirs remit and he has been stood down. Now Mr Greens plans are really up the chute as he needs to up the cost of season tickets next year and cannot square that with playing in the bottom tier again. This may force him to pull his quick exit plans forward and maybe even that of the institutional investors as well leaving a pile of useless paper, known as share certificates, blowing in the wind behind him. As I said, just my opinion.

  17. Just watching the Party Political Broadcast masquerading as a sports item on STV there.

Anyone else note the wee faux pas from Senor Verde? “I have to look at the best interests of Rangers as a business, the shareholders…..(slight pause)….and the supporters.”

Bears, you now know where you feature in Chico’s priorities. I’d be watching Edmiston Drive for the appearance of fast limousines in the very near future.

Since the SPL voting system is currently 11-1, it only needs 2 teams to scupper any plans. I mention Celtic and Aberdeen only because I believe in my opinion are the two teams who if, smell a rat would vote against it. Dundee Utd may be another (Due to recent events) 🙂
Seriously, is anyone really excited about this new setup, splits and the zeroing of points at the midway stage? And I will stand by my gut reaction, this is only happening to help the newclub, no one else.

  20. I’m against the 12-12-18 proposals for league reconstruction, but I could be persuaded into Charles Greens alternative 12-12-17 proposal 🙂

  21. Don’t be fooled by the so called disgust of SEVCO regards the reconstruction of Scottish football…

Lets not forget the MO of these guys…always claim the opposite to want you’re aiming for…

And lets not be surprised if in the midst of reconstruction..somehow SEVCO are given preferential consideration to be placed in the top division…don’t believe the claims reconstruction is not to fastrack these thieves..

  22. Charles Green has decided it would be a good idea to take his team out of Scottish football, again.

His first team was taken out as a result of a failed CVA.

Apparently his new team are to depart on a wave of arrogance.

One can only wish them well and God speed.

Don’t be fooled by the so called disgust of SEVCO regards the reconstruction of Scottish football…
    ======
My first inclination would be to agree but in this instance I think that this will backfire.

The more they bluster and fuss, the more difficult it will be for the clubs to favour them as it will be all the more obvious and intolerable to fans if treachery is attempted.

Unfortunately, in the time that it has taken me to one-finger type this I have started to revert to my first inclination.

  25. Agreed, that Charlie is just assisting with the smokescreen – especially if there is no reaction from the authorities.

Perhaps – as in the summer – fans need to lobby their SPL clubs to publicly state that they will only support reconstruction which involves ‘promotion/relegation based on merit – and no other criteria’.

Then the customers could start assessing the proposals objectively.

And when, precisely, is the SFA/SPL/SFL looking to collect feedback from their customers – in order to decide if they need to adjust their proposals ? [I like asking stoopid questions… 😉 ]

  29. Does Charles Green actually know anything about football?

  39. What if Charlie’s exit plan is to take The Rangers International share money and buy out /amalgamate with an English team in one of the lower divisions ? Let’s say his local boyhood team Doncaster Rovers .He could change the name to Doncaster Rangers and play at The Keepmoat Stadium . He could then sell off Ibrox and Murray Park for whatever he could get . Players could be Tupe’d over and those that refused could be sold . Possible ?

  46. I will keep it short and very sweet Chuckles…………..Goodbye.

  47. What kept them ,the bears on RM are calling for a boycott on Magners
add it to the world record of boycotted things that they hold.

  48. what about a boycott on on Nike or a boycott on adidas. If they boycotted everything Celtic related…it might be easier just stating what they are allowed to buy.

as for CG suggesting to the board that they move to England, the bored here welcome his proposal.

  49. Not sure about the reconstruction plans. I know we’re all suspicious because of the names behind and endorsing them. It’s just seems a bit strange that when we’ve been crying out for it for years nothing was done, and now that we’re finally got a reasonably competitive and exciting league, then they’re all for ripping it up and starting again. That’s not to say that it’s not needed, just the rush to implement it all of a sudden raises doubts. However, lets’ be fair and take them at face value for the time being.

As a fan of a lower league club, my main issue with the proposed set up is – what’s to become of the 1st and 2nd division titles? Realistically, that’s our only shot of silverware. But the reconstruction plans seems to suggest that these titles would disappear. Instead you’d have a sort of hybrid league. Would you be SPL lower play off champions? Division 1.5 champions? I’m not really sure.

The main issue is that certain teams WILL STILL BE PLAYING EACH OTHER FOUR TIMES IN A SEASON!!! Fans are fed up seeing the same matches. Whenever a player leaves the SPL to join some lower league English also-ran, they will almost always cite the boredom of playing the same teams time after time.

Additionally, what’s the incentive for the teams at the bottom of the top of the SPL (or whatever you want to call it). At least in the current set up, unless there’s a Dundee or a Gretna, teams towards the bottom are still on their toes until well into the season. The team that are 8th in the SPL, unless there’s an unprecedented tightness among the top 8, will have literally nothing to play for for the remaining half a season.

I think we all know that a 16-18 top league is what the fans want, but the clubs would never go for it because they’d sacrifice a couple of games against Celtic (and possibly The Rangers, assuming they don’t somehow manage to huffily escape Scotland before they make they’re way to top league). Again, there’s also the meaningless games that would arrive in the latter half of the season, but at least we wouldn’t see the same old games and the same old players time after time, after time, after time, after ti………..

I dont know what the ideal set up would be (if we discount the 16/18 team league), but to fair to Turnbull Hutton, he’s calling it exactly as it is – he’s not dressing it up as some deal to save Scottish football, he’s saying it would be good for his club.

  50. So today Charlie is whipping up the TRFC fans – again – by directing his public ire at all and sundry wrt reconstruction.

Shortly, he is scheduled, [IMO], to launch a sustained, public, verbal attack on the SPL/SFA on the ‘fairness/legitimacy’ of the upcoming LNS inquiry.

So when will the administrators of Scottish football finally take action in public against Charlie’s persistent rabble-rousing ?

…after there is a riot in Dundee next month ?

I think that is a problem here.

Any objectivity seems to have gone out the window when it comes to League Reconstruction.

Everything is seen as to do with how it will affect The Rangers.

Even when The Rangers CEO comes out and says “we’re outta here if that happens”, this is still seen as a smokescreen and said CEO and his merry band are actually totally for it.

The East Region of the Scottish Juniors is undergoing reconstruction of the Leagues next season – my first (and only) thought wasn’t “this is all about getting Bathgate/Whitburn back into the Superleague”.

Is this yet more evidence that Traynor (and by implication, Green) have seriously misjudged the mood in the country? By Traynor’s announcing that it was a disgrace that the ‘biggest club in the country’ weren’t consulted about reconstruction (and it’s implied victimhood), people were bound to ask why. Combine that with his maligning of the very people that TRFC used to rely on to tow the party line in such matters, and it was never going to end well.

Once the plans are published, look at the detail, and make up our minds then. As things stand, all we know is that we’re in for a lop-sided looking league set up, and not much more than that.

Absolutely. And I can understand peoples instincts to just right it off.

We need to see the detail rather than just chuck it all in the bin and say “it’s only being done to help TRFC”.

It doesn’t look great to me – altho, off topic, if my team do well in the East Region this season, we could be looking at a place in the Superleague, however unlikely that may be – but to dismiss it as being a one trick pony, is misguided, IMHO. Especially when fans have been crying out for Reconstruction. Maybe it’s not what people on TSFM want, but it is at a least a step in the right direction of making things better. I hope.

Turnbull Hutton was lauded as a man who could be trusted to bring sporting integrity to Scottish Football, is he now singing from the same song sheet (not THAT song sheet) as The Rangers?

    I seriously doubt it.

He wants the best for his club – as we all do – maybe he thinks this is it and there’s no agenda?

Some people will still find that hard to comprehend.

  63. When can we expect the announcement postponing the LNS inquiry?.

  64. I’ve got a sneaky feeling that reconstruction will be put on hold for 1 season. Sevco will be given the time to gain promotion to Division 2.

  65. RM:-

When Rangers eventually reach the EPL, and assuming we had an 80000 capacity (big assumptions accepted), what sort of crowds would we draw against Utd, Liverpool etc? How many season tickets would we sell? Money talks, Sky would absolutely love it, revenue would go through the roof, Rangers would be the iconic “Scottish Team” in the eyes of the world. Our support would increase massively, revenue would increase further and the momentum would be unstoppable. We will become a global commodity, maybe something not everyone wants bit it is going to happen.

    ____________________________________________________________________________Not everyone…………………………..!!! Really?

  66. Surely there is a win-win here for everybody. If CG wants to ‘leave’ Scottish football, he could apply to join the (Scotch-) Irish League: less travel for the bulk of their support, a fraternal atmosphere (nudge), familiar musical accompaniment, almost guaranteed entry to Yoorup (subject to minor irritants like tax and accounts), and a great culture of inflammatory rhetoric.

    What’s not to like?
