About the The Scottish Football Monitor

The purpose of The Scottish Football Monitor is to pay homage to, and carry on the work of the groundbreaking RangersTaxCase blog (RTC). The aim of the Scottish Football Monitor is to cast a questioning and watchful eye on Scottish Football officialdom and the compliant mainstream media (MSM).

Scottish football, in the immediate wake of the Rangers FC liquidation, faces great challenges. The MSM have provided no sensible checks or balances on the actions of the authorities. The Scottish Football Monitor aims to provide those checks and balance.

The cosy relationship that has existed between the media and people at the top of Scottish Football has dissuaded those who may otherwise be moved to blow the whistle on wrongdoing. The Scottish Football Monitor aims, through time, and by winning the trust of ordinary fans, to fill a gap in the football media in Scotland that has been up to now filled only by RTC.

The Rangers FC saga, its consequences, and consequences of the accompanying stream of untruths and misdirection fed to us by the MSM is far from over. RTC was successful in getting the previously buried truth of the Rangers tax case into the mainstream despite a hostile MSM reaction. The Scottish Football Monitor hopes to use the skills and expertise of those in our community to a cast light on matters that those in authority would have concealed, or at least present alternative arguments to those being presented as having none.

Scottish Football Monitor asks contributors to remember only a few things;

1. The site is not the domain of any one club and is open to fans of all clubs.

2. Absolutely no discussion with regard to religion should take place.

3. Posters should refrain from using foul or abusive language.

  1. Jonny,

    The 2012fc fans could well be up the proverbial creek without a ‘paddle’…..unlike Max who had paddles aplenty…..allegedly!

    ‘Spartans? Integrity?

    Not applying to the SFL at the same time as Sevco Scotland?

    Don’t think so’

    ——
    That’s possibly a wee bit harsh.
    No club HAS to apply to move up! I doubt if Spartans’ decidion not to was motivated by a desire to ease the path either for a non-existent club of for a brand new club .

    There would be a really great story, though, if there was any hint that Spartans had been bought off by sweeteners from the SFA. Not that the MSM would ever report it, of course.

    I seriously doubt, however, that Spartans would ever accept such a sweetener: but I would not put it past the authorities to try to offer one, such has been there desperate readiness to accommodate the dead club/ new club.

    And I am not by nature a cynical man.

    ‘.I heard C Young on BBC and he could not have been more delighted and it was Rangers this and Rangers that ..’

    And, most disappointingly, Richard Gordon got caught up in the frenzy of blind worship for a rotten club, sympathysing with all that they had ‘gone through’. Never a word of condemnation, no attempt at any kind of BBC impartiality, and Rob McLean also joined in the ‘love-fest’.

    The ghost of the despised Peter Thomson is still haunting BBC Scotland. And when I say despised, I mean despised since my childhood.

  4. Does the gate receipts for tonight not get split?

    ‘Sevco have a dilemma, if most of the money they take in tonight is cash on the gate do they declare it all and show the true attendance or siphon some of the cash into a back office and lower the attendance….’

    East Fife players may have been having their photos taken with their opponents before the much, but you can be sure their club treasurer will already have calculated to the pound what to expect as half of gate receipts less expenses, and be ready to ask serious questions if he doesn’t get it!

  7. TMWTL @20.52pm. Does that include win bonus? If not then that is a hefty chunk of change for Div 3. Wont be long now folks.

  8. IMHO Easy Jambo got it right and the taxman cometh is calling it totally wrong. Wee aspiring teams like Spartans and Cove and Gala and Gretna and others could all have made a fuss about sfa/sfl finagling Sevco into the sfl 3.
    I wish one of them had and I’ve been on record on RTC saying I’d have sent money to any fighting fund.

    None of the wee aspirants said or did anything about the Sevco love- in because it would have led to them being ostracised.
    And that would have been the end of their dreams and aspirations.

    Sevco should have started at the entry level like Gretna and the shabby compromise shows why our web site is still needed.
    And I also think that our new folk hero Jim Spence called it wrong last night – we just want an end to the corruption not an end to the clean up.
    The clean up has to be done right Jim
    Scottish football and Scottish fans need to see the right thing being done and letting Sevco the new company in was not how they treated Gretna.
    All any of us want is fair rules and fair administration and all members being treated equally.

  9. Listened to Sportsound pre-match. What an absolutely shocking, disgraceful, appalling broadcast. The 4th estate in Scotland really are a bunch of cretins. As for the deid club –

    Bring on the FTT announcement, the BDO liquidators and get them outta here.

    Another point. Is all this gratutious spending on players designed to put more pressure on SFA & SPL etc to put them straight back into the SPL next season, or have they just not learned their lesson?

  10. This time last year my hope was that the truth would come out of the FTT rulings and that DM woould be shown out to be the arrogant weasel that he is – he is the epitome of all that is bad about Scottish business – favours/banks/business “connections” and an eager press to do his PR work.

    In Feb after Swally had caused Rangers (IA) to run out of money by his failure to get into Europe and keep the 15 point lead over Celtic, CW tried to bluff Hector by declaring the administration in a few weeks threat – Hector called him on it. Then came the call to arms by William Pullar and Swally and the CG smarm charm….

    My thought then was not to have Rangers disappear but to start all over again – by cutting their cloth accordingly to be in the 3rd division it would negate all the bad baggage and hopefully a more friendly, less ultra supremecist club would be reborn.

    However CG needed to sell STs – and so the call to arms was put out. This is the same club – and now they have the chance to belittle everyone for 3 to 4 years – treating everyone as untermenschen.

    Bu the time they come back, I can hear the jack boots marching down the road….

    We have witnessed the rebirth of a monster – this is not going to be a cuase for celebration. Radio Scotland should hang their heads in shame – as should CG who used an intolerant term to rally the troops – but does not know what the feeling is to someone like Danny McGrain who wanted to play for his boyhood heroes but was assumed since his name was not Scottish enough, he must not be one of ra peepil.

    Tonight I am ashamed to be Scottish!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    51,000 you say? Very impressive for a fledgling SPL3 outfit. Hector will be pleased.
    As will the clubs who have yet to be paid for the football debts of the previous club. That will be the first thing that Charles pays won’t it? I mean, The Rangers FC wouldn’t dream of signing players on hugely inflated salaries when there are debts still to be paid, would they?
  14. So, we assume 51000 at TRFC Ltd (c 2012) tonight. £15 per adult (generous) minus 15% expenses (to cover Ibrox costs? I doubt it) equals £325k for East Fife (and I don’t grudge them a single penny)
    East Fife will get far more benefit from their windfall than TRFC Ltd (c2012) ever will (a drop in the ocean of their new debt)
  15. Seems Oldgold did not go to the game – I assume its because CG is so desperate for cash so no free seats for anyone tonight – and we all know the likes of Jack, Paul Murray and their like are so willing to invest in Rangers-NIL/Sevco – as long as it never costs them anything themsleves of course! Only the idiots believing the MSM nonsense are expected to part with the dosh to keep the masters on top. Easy to fleece ra peepil!
    I’ve updated the wages calculator to reflect announced SB price and reduced the Ticketus clawback to zero since it is only speculation they are still involved.
    Even then the weekly average wage is £1862 in seasons one and two. Ticketus, if they are involved would probably wait for an SPL return to start a clawback in yr3 or 4 which would reduce the average wage currently shown. The effect of a clawback can be seen by entering a figure in the Ticketus cell which should turn the Bottom Line red. Adjust the wage figure down to put Booton Line into black.
    Absolutely right. East Fife will be laughing all the way to the bank. Meanwhile, The Rangers FC have to pay the old clubs football debts (how galling is that for the non-football creditors?), hugely inflated salaries/appearance money and win bonuses whilst also presumably having to pay that pesky tax and NI.
    Nevertheless, I’m sure there will still be enough left to sign one or two more South American superstars.
    Do you not realise that if you want something to be discussed, you have to start the discussion off.
    The Rangers alledged cheating and the The Rangers starting off in SFL3 and seemingly sticking two fingers up to dignity and integrity are still two of the hot topics in Scottish football. The good folks on here are doing their best to monitor them.
    If you’ve got a subject to bring up, let’s hear it. I’m sure you’ll find posters who are willing to engage.
  32. I think it’s a good thing and some form of recompense that TRFC will over the course of the coming seasons help boost the coffers of the Scottish Football League clubs – of course it’s a pity about their unreformed and unreconstructed attitudes plus also the failure to make good other creditors and tax-payers but them being in the 4th Division is probably a worthwile outcome from this whole scandal.
  33. amurkypath @ 21:41
    At the moment, the Sevco story is the only show in town, and while there are still corrupt and underhand dealings being carried out in its name, Sevco will continue to be the main focus of the blog
    In due course, when there are other matters to deal with, the focus will shift onto those
  34. This wasn’t merely TRFC’s first game tonight it was meant to be a rally of sorts. This will be TRFCs most hyped game against a SFL club this season and they have to share a 38,000 gate, which was only £15 entry. All good things come to those that wait…..just wait for the November attendances, the FTT result, the BDO report on the administration, HMRC’s pursuit of individuals, the police enquiries and the SPL investigation. None of that is going away.
    I can assume from your reply that nothing will change. I feel sorry for you and Scottish football that this site won’t be its savior or monitor. It’s just another site for silly and small little digs at a club who are already facing a difficult time. Enjoy yourself while you can as i fear it will evaporate soon enough and a real opportunity to change the structure of football for the better will be missed.
    I know, lets talk about, Juninho, or… Peter Lawell’s daughter, those are good stories, but have been done to death, unless…. you have new information.
  41. OK,
    As a league of Ireland person and leaving aside certain recent comments comparing your teams and structures to ours, I think we are not doing too bad,
    My own team, Shamrock Rovers, went through a traumatic few years after serious financial shennanigans. No home ground, no money, nearly no team. Not, I hasten to add, because of anything illegal. We have emerged with a great new stadium, a new fan base in addition to the old hands, and a competetive, entertaining team. We are solvent and successful again. Why? largely due to a core of devoted and committed fans.
    The League has been reconstructed with a Summer emphasis and, guess what, matches when fans want to watch them!
    I’m not suggesting the SFA should do the same but the point is that the fans were listened to, something was done and the result is great.
    My tin hat is now on
  42. Can I just point out that people complaining about this blog only talking about one entity are missing the point completely; Sevco Scotland Ltd get discussed all the time, along with RFC(IA), and RFC(IL). There are also other clubs getting a mention, from time to time, but the main story in Scottish Football is still these entities. Ask BDO, ask HMRC, and ask the MSM… they, in particular, are full of it 🙂
  43. amurkypath says:
    ‘Do you not realise that you must widen your discussion base. This is Scottish football monitor and not the Rangers monitor. ‘
    —–
    All in good time, amurkypath, all in good time…
    Remember that those who most desperately want to ‘draw lines’ and ‘move on going forward’ and ‘get back to talking about football’ are the guilty men and their mouthpiece accomplices in the MSM who have so subverted the game that it’s a wonder there is any game left at all!
    No, the whole unbelievably entangled mess caused in so many areas of civic life by that rotten club has got to be dragged out in all its muck an filth, guilty persons charged, tried ( in the court of football and in some cases undoubtedly in the criminal courts) and, if found guilty, duly and appropriately punished in the appropriate forum.
    Only then can the mucking out of the byres which house Scottish football be begun, and we can meaningfully ‘move forward’ to wider discussions, including in particular, discussion about how we keep blazer- and- club corruption from re-emerging in senior positions in the Administration of the game.
    Think rule-breaking financial cheating on a huge scale.
    Think non-investigation into same.
    Think cover-up of same by the Administrators.
    Think defence and protection from due penalty by Administrators,
    Think bluster, bullying, and lying by Administrators.
    Think cross-over of club officials into Admimnistration.
    Think incitement to violence.
    Think of speeches of ‘civic unrest’
    Think of ‘new applicant’ club being invited to ‘agree’ to accept penalties
    Think of BBC partiality, think of MSP attempts to influence an independent judicial panel; and so on and on.
    None of this has been properly dealt with.
    And you think we should at this juncture broaden out discussion? By the Lord Harry, we have meat enough on our plate with that single club’s delinquencies.
  53. It is possible to discuss other topics on this site – no one has ever stopped me. For example, I am of the view that the Highland youth academy system is based on a culture and practice resource-sharing between rivals ICT and Ross County. In a small nation with finite resources I would like to see other clubs share – stadium, facilities, knowledge and staff. I’d welcome any credible ideas that would deliver shared resources between clubs. Greed and selfishness has not been good for Scottish football. It is not simply about wanting league reconstruction but rather a change in the way we think about rivalry.
    I wondered what response I would get to this post last night.
    So far, a saddening trickle. I feel as thought I have dropped a pebble and disrupted a column of ants. Without breaking stride the ants have created a new path around the obstruction and continued on their way (I mean no disrespect here, simply presenting a visual metaphor).
    I think that in order to develop, this site needs to begin to communicate with the outside world. Otherwise, I don’t know how it will be able to pursue its Mission Statements.
    No newspaper editor is going to pick through the submissions herein on a regular basis. Even if they did they will not feel any pressure to change their editorial content.
    There will be no future if we just post ‘I wonder what X would have to say about that’. X should be asked. If we just assume that to do so would be useless, what exactly are we doing here. Read the Mission Statements. There are many, many posts here that ask rhetorical questions but questions should be asked for real.
    Thanks to john clarke August 7 11.37. I agree, john, moving this forward does raise many difficult issues. I don’t, necessarily, have answers, I am doing the easy bit – putting a view forward for discussion. As you said, john, there must be qualified people here who can help with the steering. It can only happen if enough people want it to.
    Regarding anonymity, it would be possible for those with a public face to continue posting with anonymity, as I’m sure many do now.
    I agree that all this could be discussed at leisure. In the meantime, if there was a database of email addresses (is that technically possible, PL?) we could at least start rebutting misinformation from the MSM. This site is averaging more than 12 comments an hour. If a MSM editor received an email every 5 minutes, day and night, pointing out that Rangers weren’t ‘demoted to Division Three’, they might start demanding facts from their journalists. Let us try.
    Fans of football (thanks Frank Forrest) need to start using the send button. I’m not sure that there is the will for this here, especially after reading comments in the last hour. Lord Wobbly August 7 at 22.11 said “If someone thinks you’ve got a point they will engage with you”. Well, apart from responses from ‘john clarke’ and ‘Frank Forrest’ there has been no desire to engage on this topic.
    Clicking a Thumbs Up button is not going to change anything.
  56. Just to give BowenBoys and amurkypath a bit of support, since we moved over to this site, I read a good number of first time posters saying that they’d lurked on RTC for ages but didn’t feel confident enough to post. Shirley some of you have something that you want to discuss. We don’t bite (well not all of the time) and if you’ve read any of my posts you will already know that you don’t need to be Stuart Cosgrove or Mark Daly or RTC or Alex Thomson in order to make a point. Even Bomber was prepared to stand up and say his piece 😀
  57. amurkypath @ 22:18
    I don’t see you as an enemy, but I think you are failing to grasp the fundamental point
    The issue of Sevco, and the preferential treatment it has received, and will no doubt continue to receive, lies at the very heart of all that is wrong with our game
    You have to admit, that there is not another club in the country that would have received such favourable treatment, after the way it has behaved
    So please forgive us if we are concentrating on the issues surrounding this club
    If we can help bring pressure to bear to have these issues dealt with fairly, then we will have achieved quite a lot
    What would be your restructuring plans ?
    Right. That’s enough of that. Has nobody got any gen on the FTTT? 😀
    Oh please yourselves.
    Its an excellent idea Sarah and one that is followed in the NL
    When it comes to educating young players, the FC Twente Football Academy has a good reputation. The regional program not only provides the lifeblood of FC Twente, but also that of Heracles Almelo and Go Ahead Eagles. These clubs have worked together with FC Twente in establishing this football academy, which now serves to protect and develop the quality of football in the east of The Netherlands.
    What I am saying is that you can flog a horse to death when its not necessary.
    ______________________________________________________________
    Not necessary? Dear God in Heaven above.
    Refer to the 9 point checklist of Clarke J @ 22:18, examine it honestly and then inform us that all is done and dusted. Your particular horse at this juncture has not even staggered on three working legs as far as the gates to the knackers’ yard, wherein a somewhat grisly and certain fate awaits.
    Oh, and follow the advice of M’Lord Wobbly. He is rather good at this sort of thing.
    If you raise in the correct spirit a particular point then your query/point will be replied to with some civility.
    Get cracking. Join the ‘EasyJambos’ and ‘SarahLeydons’ of this world who have provided and will continue to provide outstanding contributions. On your side of the fence – OnA3, Yojimbo and DP could teach you more than a thing or two.
  65. Noticed this on the Thistle website tonight in a piece asking for match day volunteers…
    “As you would imagine, these roles carry a salary commensurate with the title “volunteer” (ie Nothing) but you may occasionally get to wear a hi-vis vest and you will definitely get the sense of satisfaction that comes from knowing you are helping Glasgow’s Oldest and Best Professional Football Club.”
    Some of the regular posters on here might quibble about being the best but there can surely be no debate about us now being the oldest (established 1876). Smiley face thingy.
  67. Campsiejoe,
    The last thing I want is for Rangers to get back into the SPL and absolutely nothing has changed. Unfair distribution of tv money or the same amount of teams played over and over again I would like to increase the SPL number of teams and end winter football forever. Bangordub proves that it can be done.
    I’m not trying to distract anyone from their main topic but maybe bangordub could give some advise as to where to start.
    I think the point of this blog is to gather fans of all clubs, including yours, whatever it’s called,(no offence) in common cause to make a better future for Scottish Football.
    There is huge anger out there because of the words and actions (or lack of) of those who should be leaders and opinion makers in the game.
    In a word there is “arrogance”.
    The boil needs to be lanced before the cure can begin to work.
    It would be good if Rangers fans, the real ones, joined with everyone else in this common cause instead of lashing out like a wounded animal.
    It is the honest fans of that club who have been lied to, misled and had their money “taken”.
    They need to wake up and as us Dub’s would say, “Cop on”
