Good Afternoon

The ‘New Pioneers’ painting was a stroke of some form of genius. Although certainly not a brush-stroke… What *were* they thinking – in terms of finance, PR, and – for Heaven’s sake – Art?!

The Ibrox outfit has a real penchant for causing unwitting hilarity…

I have written a few thoughts on this issue if anyone can bring themselves to take the risk of reading them!

Good Evening

Just looked in the mirror and I don’t appear to be Craig Whyte. However, I am unable to definitively dismiss persistent rumours that the Medical Wing of Clumpany Towers is home to a world-leading Plastic Surgery team.

Enjoy the rest of the evening, see you around, and please…

Good Evening.

I couldn’t help but dwell today upon one of the growing trivialities of our game…

Aberdeen gave Celtic a ‘Guard of Honour’ before today’s match. Fair play to Aberdeen – who have been fantastic this season – for the gracious gesture.

However, I must admit that I find the issue of ‘Guards of Honour’ to be extremely tedious. It seems to have progressed from something that was ‘a nice gesture’ towards the League (or sometimes Cup) Winners, to something that is now a perpetual source of angst.

If it was up to me, we would cut back on the ‘Guard of Honour’ pantomime. If we have to have it in football, let’s have it AFTER a game. And a maximum of once. Preferably after the game when the trophy is to be awarded.

Heaven knows Scottish Football doesn’t need another comparatively minor issue to get worked up about… Yet – as Derek McInnes rightly pointed out – the media still keep focusing on it!

There are plenty of far bigger issues for us all to deal with instead. So can we park the ‘Guard of Honour’ issue and think about them instead?!

If you have the stomach, I have further thoughts on this issue at

The Other Honours System

Enjoy the rest of the evening!

Good Afternoon

One of the great things to happen as a result of the Rangers/ Sevco saga is that Scottish football fans cast a much more critical eye over what the media and PR advisers tell us. Indeed we see it everyday on TSFM.

This scepticism and refusal to gratefully accept a handed-down narrative is a very healthy thing for our sport as well as society and all the citizens that live in it.

Questioning the messenger, their motivation and the quality of their information is unquestionably a good thing.

Last night’s furore about the ‘raid’ on Sports Direct is a classic example of the MSM using pejorative language to give a particular impression, only for many of us to frown quizzically and say “Aye Right…”

And lo and behold what happened this morning? Sports Direct (perhaps unsurprisingly) gave a much more low-key account of what actually happened, and then Phil MacGiollabhian
followed up with two blogs strongly suggesting that the ‘raid’ possessed none of the attributes you might expect of… errrr…..a raid.

Who knows, If we maintain our sceptical questioning approach, we might ultimately end up arriving at the truth (or at least a truth of sorts) on all sorts of issues…

If you can bear to peruse more thoughts on this, brace yourself and have a look at https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2015/05/06/visitations-from-off-the-raid-ar/

Enjoy the rest of the day!

Ah Sorry Big Pink I see you beat me to it!

Small Price to Pay?
Good Afternoon.

If you haven’t yet seen it, do take a moment to look at the Record’s shameful article/tweets about the Celtic ballgirl who allegedly swore at Sevco players after their goal today. It’s disgraceful stuff which risks making her a target for the lunatics. Links herein. https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2017/03/12/please-help-to-name-and-shame/

But do come back here to debate the issues! ?

Sportsound was another joy to behold last night.
Great post! They seem not to even care that the show often resembles a Sevco fans’ podcast.  Endless earnest discussion about the latest manoeuvrings as if they were talking about a military campaign, and ALL based on the assumption that the latest Ibrox outfit is the same entity, with the same “success”, status and expectation of dominance as its pre-2012 predecessor. You will never hear a conversation about Sevco on any radio or TV programme which is thoroughly grounded in the reality of that basket case’s true position. A large part of the audience doesn’t want to hear such blasphemous talk and the pundits certainly doesn’t want to be the ones to utter it. Meanwhile the rest of us are left hanging.
Still, it entertains in a “cringe-making” sort of a way!
I had a bit of fun imagining the implications for Sportsound and Kenny Macintrye if Barry Ferguson ever got the Sevco manager’s job. If anyone wants to look it it is here. https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2017/02/26/barry-ferguson-sevco-manager/
Keep up the good work!

Peace – Not War
…and those of us with an interest in Resolution 12 will marvel at the sight of the SFA taking an interest in the detail of whether an Ibrox-based entity should get a UEFA licence…
