Hello

Welcome. As Mark Dickson suggested, this is a forum to discuss how the legacy of RTC can be honoured and continued.

The mechanics of how we move forward, if there is an appetite for it can be discussed freely.

Kicking off with no particular shopping list, I think that the key is that moderation is kept to a minimum, that people should by and large be encouraged to self moderate, and that the ethos put in place by RTC would be welcome.

In the post RTC era, I suspect that readership of any new blog will decrease. The consequence of that will hopefully be that there is less of what RTC called a fan site and therefore an easier to moderate situation.

I think that in the first instance, the site should look as close to RTC as possible to make people feel at home, but a name has to be found.

Suggested items for discussion;

Name for blog

Moderation policy

Moderation board members

Anything else 🙂

Below, there is a poll to consider which of the three most popular names mentioned so far should be chosen for the blog. I’ll let the poll run until 1900 hrs on Wednesday and we can move on from there to other more substantial matters.

    Who’s Midgers? A relative from the North East?
    I’m just a dandy for my sins.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Midgers is one of my best mates. Your Uni Challenge piece was classic him. He’s a Dandy Don alright. As he keeps reminding me, nobody holds a European trophy quite like Willie Miller! 😀
  2. Ffs – cant believe it – 4th email address and umpteenth attempt at positing on RTC without success – but mangaged it first time on here 🙂
    Soave’d to excess tonight so will offer erudite and witty comments tomorrow…
    Thanks to RTC for providing an unanticipated way to fill every waking moment since the Guardian article earlier this year and look forward to making your acquaintance
  3. Glad to see there are still fans of the game around, willing to keep an eye on what the great and good are up to.
  4. I still like Succulent Lamb, it is now, and should remain, an important part of the Scottish football lexicon, synonymous with the dangers of a supine, lickspittle, corrupt press. Lest we forget! I suspect each day will begin on here with a selection of the days print offerings and this site will develop as a much needed ‘mediawatch’ exercise. Succulent Lamb encapsulates the whole story of the past 10 years……plus it will hang around Jabba’s neck as long as its there!
    Re comment from David at 5:07pm.
    The guy did have a point and if you look at the responses this is where this sites varies from the likes of FF and RM. His point has been taken on board considered and answers, explainations an aknowledgement given. There is none of this, get tae f*** off off this site as they do on RM and FF,I’ve seen them!
    Spot on. As I’ve said on numerous occasions going right back to the early days, everyone is welcome if they come in the right
    spirit. David’s post may not have been in the right spirit, but his point was recognised as a valid one.
    David. If you’re reading and have more to add, come on over to the new site (http://scottishfootballcorruption.wordpress.com ) and do so. But less of the GIRUY sentiment eh?
  8. Although both Succulent Lamb (good, but too ‘in’?) and Neither Fear nor Favour (also good, but what’s it about?) are in the lead, Scottish Football Monitor is just unemotional and po-faced enough to be a good working title.
    And yes, fans and followers of all teams welcome, but there must be a commitment to ridding Scottish football of the deep corruption that has attached historically to one club in particular. But we also need a ‘mother post’ to get our teeth into.
  9. Apologies if posted….and this is not just RTC orientated. This matters to all of us…
    The tale of the inexplicable signing policy
    What is going on at The Rangers FC now? Third Division football
    beckons yet the club is still signing players from the SPL.
    Commercially, this makes very little sense states Colin D. Young.
    The club must already cost significantly more to operate than it
    can deliver in matchday revenues and sponsorship, therefore the
    question arises of where Charles Green’s remarkable consortium
    are finding the cash to finance SPL players playing in the depths of
    the third division.
    Perhaps, just perhaps, their business model is based around
    winning the cups? This could be feasible with an SPL level squad,
    but would even the limited revenues from winning the Ramsdens
    Cup, or even the Scottish Cup, be enough to offset the wages of
    the likes of Lee McCulloch?
    And what of the players?
    Can anyone really tell me that Lee Wallace, Lee McCulloch, Dorin
    Goian or the rest of their ilk couldn’t stroll into contracts in the SPL
    and play competitive football?
    Are these players content with the sporting challenge of
    competing against such luminaries of the third division as young
    Kyle Gillespie of East Stirlingshire, or Clyde’s Stefan McCluskey?
    Perhaps they are? After all, none of the current The Rangers FC
    squad are internationals are they? Oops, it appears that some of
    them are….well, probably not for long unless they move to a
    competitive club or competition. I’ve got to be absolutely
    honest with everyone who reads this and state that if someone
    wanted to pay me SPL wages to go and kick a ball around Glebe
    Park on a Saturday afternoon, I’d probably jump at the chance
    too.
    This smacks of money over sporting integrity, to drag up that old
    phrase that seems to have gone away since Rangers descended
    into the Third. Dean Shiels is one player who has personally
    turned my stomach. He walks away from a contract with his
    own father at Kilmarnock – an SPL side, of all things – and goes to
    The Rangers FC to play against part-timers, veterans at the end of
    their career and young boys who aren’t good enough to compete
    at a higher level. Such are the actions of a mercenary.
    I apologise to Third Division players for any offence that the
    above comments may have caused.
    It is so very disappointing to see Rangers taking this approach.
    The opportunity was, and still is, there for them to raise their own
    youngsters through the ranks and give them experience in
    preparation for their SPL return – if the SPL even exists by then.
    Which brings me nicely to the possible conspiracy theory,
    namely, perhaps the death of the SPL is so imminent that it has
    already been agreed. Charles Green already KNOWS that there will
    be a new league formed, one way or another, in the near future
    and that The Rangers FC will be invited to play. Why else would he
    invest so heavily in SPL level playing staff to “compete” in the
    Third Division?
    It wouldn’t be the first time that secret handshakes have been
    exchanged behind closed doors to decide on the direction of
    Scottish Football.
    Motherwell, St. Johnstone and Dundee United could certainly have
    benefitted from players like McCulloch, or even Shiels, for their
    respective challenges in Europe. Sadly, these clubs are faced with
    a massive challenge (or have failed already) to proceed in Europe
    – but don’t worry, Rangers third division players are still
    apparently content that they are getting “competition”. Well,
    nobody in the SPL would pay a 34-year-old the same wages that Rangers would pay him, so I guess Lee McCulloch has a valid excuse – doesn’t he?
  10. Good luck with the new blog. I’m not sure about the low levels moderation though. Although it was sometimes annoying on Rangerstaxcase that aspirations to 100 point seasons could not be mentioned the real internet bampots cannot be trusted. (take comments on the Scotsman website for example)
  13. hello. Really glad this has been setup as felt whilst reading the last RTC blog that it was ending prematurely.   15. I do like the succulent lamb suggestion
    it mocks the MSM ,it mocks the corrupt figure of Sir David Murray and his autocracy upon our game,it is not aligned to any club and probably most pertinent it mocks Lord Haw Haw himself
    Mr James Traynor who coined the phrase when speaking to Graham Spiers .
    Murray and Traynor have been the most damaging individuals of all within our game.
    The biggest crook aided and abetted by the biggest apologist from the press.
    I used to use the phrase succulent spam on RTC to reflect the quality of dinners now provided by Craig Whyte ,maybe that would be as appropriate.
    Regardless what its called I hope this new forum can keep up the high standards we generally had on RTC and I wish it every success .
    I hope that posters can self moderate and avoid contentious issues like religion ,if its to be all inclusive then its important we dont divide ourselves .
    Well done on continuing the fight
    On that note, it would be good if more non-Celtic fans could be
    attracted to join in. Perhaps aim for at least one representative
    from EVERY club?
    ==================
    well there is at least one from EFFC btw if the blog changes and
    people shift from RTC can it claim the RTC history?
    They can claim it if they want. But there is no doubt that this new site started its history today.
  19. Lord Wobbly
    Actually, ‘Doon the slope’ itself might be a good name for the new blog. I’d certainly relinquish the title for such a worthy cause.
    However, rather than pluck humorous or poignant names out of thin air, maybe the contributors should be asked to discuss firstly what the aim of the blog would be. Once we ‘have visibility’ on that, the name will suggest itself.
    This blog must move on from Rangers Tax Case. Rangers has been exposed, as has the succulent lamb media. The new targets which have come to the fore would seem to be the Scottish footballing authorities who have shown themselves to be utterly shameless. Lets take our time and get it right.
  20. If it has to be related to succulent lamb, how about The Silence of the Succulent Lambs
  23. It’s a sad reflection on our institutions that govern Scottish football and those in the media that report the “going’s on” within the Scottish game that fans across the country feel the need of a blog that stands on the shoulders of a giant (RTC), but alas, this is were we currently stand.
    However, a word of caution, so my mate who knows a bit of legalese tells me. We have to be vigilant to what is posted either in the thread title post or in the follow up posts. We can’t post anything that could prejudice ongoing or future court cases.
    RTC has said themself, that they had any posting proof read 4 or 5 times.
    Ps, if the admin ever need a hand with anything, i’ll be more than happy to oblige.
  24. Definitely agree with asking RTC to do the first post.
    1) Much like a Scottish Footballing Dalia Lama, he is without question our spiritual leader and we would not be where we are today without him.
    2) It should ensure some continuity and encourage the lunatic fringe from RTC to TUPE over.
  27. I’d like everyone to know my original RTC name was yippekayay_RFC. As that club is now no longer in existence I have decided henceforth to be known simply as Reborn Bampot. I want it known from the start that I have no problem with the team formally known as Sevco FC. It has only played one game and unfortunately a number of it’s new fans in a case of mistaken identity have mistaken it for some bigoted club. I make no judgement on this club as what club doesn’t have teething troubles. I’m sure the bigot’s will see this new club is welcoming to people of all religion’s race or creed and will always have been this way since it’s very first game at the weekend. I trust that this site will be in good hands and that it will continue to shine the spotlight on what is so wrong in this country. I will look forward to reading all the post’s from various contributors.
  30. What about ‘Football&TraynorsTantrums’ – easily abbreviated.
  31. Some George Orwell quotes which might get the creative juices flowing (and provide a link with RTC):
    – The most grossly obvious facts can be ignored when they are unwelcome.
    – During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
    – Early in life I had noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper.
    – Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
    – Jabba is a poet, and an elephantine pedant. (Okay, I corrected that one for him.)
    – Sometimes the first duty of serious men is the restatement of the obvious.
    – What can you do against the lunatic who is more intelligent than yourself, who gives your arguments a fair hearing and then persists in his own lunacy?
  32. Looking forward to any new blog. Tried posting several times on RTC, but got caught in moderation. Gave up in the end and contented myself in reading the blog in the knowledge that there were very capable ( and sensible) bampots posting.
    RTC challenged my view of the world and caused me to question my own stance at times. The new blog must do the same. And we must be ready to challenge and fight for what is right, even if that is against our own team (easier said than done I suspect), but some of the genuine bears on RTC have shown that it can be done
  33. I’d urge against hammering the msm. It’s distortions within elements of msm. Society needs msm and they’re coming to realise that they need us,
  35. How about Schrodingers Razor?
    The two most enlightening theories amalgamated into one encapsulating the spirit of RTC (temporarily gone – never forgotten) ?
    Schrodingers Cat – both alive and dead at the same time until the box opens
    Occams Razor – the simplest answer is often the truth
    Not sure Occams Cat has the same ring to it 😉
  36. What about The Cat’s Schrodingers? Better than The Dogs bollox.
  37. @TBK – I actually quite like Occam’s Cat. Probably says more about me…
    More seriously, I see Succulent Lamb is still in the lead. Going back to PL’s question from earlier, I’d suggest the name is important and it probably is worth another 24 hours with just the leading two to allow the eventual winner to have genuinely over 50%. I note in particular quite a bit of feeling against Succulent Lamb as a name (which, in the interests of full disclosure, I should confess I share) so I worry that SL as a name could trip the blog up before it gets properly started.
  38. thegovananters
    or, more seriously,
    scottish-fan-covenant
    A website founded by supporters who have pledged to promote the principles of fairness, sportsmanship, integrity, openness and accountability within the Scottish game.
    All 99% crap and proud
    another couple of idea’s for blog title
    Bampot Bampot
  40. Rangers new logo (as plastered all over SKY News this evening) (I wonder why?)
    TOGETHER
    WE ARE
    RANGERS
    “Sometimes the first duty of serious men is to restate the obvious”, as quoted earlier from George Orwell.
    NO
    YOU
    AREN’T.
  41. In keeping with the ethos of RTC and looking at all views I would like to put forward some views that have been voiced by friends who support Rangers.
    I acknowledge that Rangers did wrong and have paid the ultimate price. Integrity was upheld by the majority of clubs by making the newco start from the bottom tier but why did the SPL force the SFL to sell or give up it’s rights to get a cut price SKY deal, is this not hypocritical?
    Should we have made the clear distinction that this is a new club; therefore all previous punishments die with the old club?
    If we made the new club start from the bottom, where is the morality of making money out of them?
    These are just some of the views that have been put to me.
  42. Great job in getting this blog set up to continue the excellent work from RTC because there is still much to discuss
    The BBC interview with Reagan was scandalous in that Reagan couldn’t actually give a direct answer to any question which suggests he is still plotting to find a berth for ‘Rangers’ at the top table ASAP. He simply has to go.
    New signing Dean Shiels is quoted as saying, ‘I know we are in the Third Division, but hopefully not for long.’ – does he know something we don’t?
    Green’s comments at Glebe Park were worthy of bringing the game into disrepute but will he face charges.
    Just how are ‘Rangers’ signing players other SPL clubs cannot afford?
    How much is the new Sky deal worth and how much do ‘Rangers’ get out of it?
    When will McCoist face the music for his name and shame outburst?
    Who are Green’s consortium members and are they fit and proper people to run a football club?
    Do they keep the history and if so, can this be legal?
    The list goes on and on and I look forward to reading all your views throughout the new season as there are still a few twists and turns to emerge in the incredible saga that is Scottish Football.
  43. Some initial thoughts on our new SPL Armageddon tv deal;
    Existing deal is worth £13M p/a… Sky-ESPN’s replacement, which was never signed, was to be worth £16M.
    So if they are renewing for £13M (of which SPL give £1M to SFL for SFL3 rights), then they’re saying SPL is worth 93% of what it previously was?
    Doncaster – in valuing it at £3M – was claiming it would be worth 23% of what it previously was.
    So that’s it then. A fairly small, and undoubtedly manageable, reduction in revenue; more so if the share-out is changed.
    Even considering the current unequitable disribution model the Diddy 10 would’ve previously shared 68% of 100%; now the Other 10+Dundee share 83% of 93% which is 78% as a compared ratio. So they would actually be better-off under this scenario, albeit tempered by overseas TV losses and in some cases gates.
    But what happened to ‘Armageddon’, ‘financial meltdown’, the re-emergence of the bubonic plague (OK I made that one up).
    We were warned it would be devastating. It’s like the Scottish football administrators and tabloid press colluded to mislead us. I’ve now lost all faith in humanity.
    —————————————————————————————————-
    So if the SPL voting structure and revenue distribution system are succesfully reformed, Diddy clubs might end with more TV money! Good news unless you’re a Sevco fan willing the SPL to die or Paul Brennan.
    Think I could get used to Armageddon. :mrgreen:
  44. The RTC blog was set up for a particular reason, to make everyone aware of what was happening with the tax case, I’m sure RTC would not have known what happened since last summer would have happened as a lot of it happened because of the actions of CW.
    Everything happend so fast since he took charge of oldco that I believe nobody seen this coming.
    This probably caused the RTC site to shut down quicker than anybody expected.
    Now we are looking at a new site with the best interests of Scottish football in mind any name should not have any reference to anything that old Rangers done or said, that should be a topic for supporters of all clubs on their own club forum.
    THIS HAS TO BE A SITE FOR SUPPORTERS OF ALL CLUBS LOOKING AFTER ALL CLUBS!
    If it isn’t then it will turn out to be just another site for Celtic supporters having a go at Rangers supporters no matter what shape their club is in.
    I am not a regular poster as I am not a person who could enlighten you all with up to date information but I do read regularly.
    RTC site was fantasic until near the end and as the great one said in the last post the comments were sliding a little too much in one direction.
    Please take this into consideration when choosing a name and hopefully the site can help govern the whole game and not just spend all the time looking at one club in division 3.
    Thanks
    A TV interview comment by ( the other guy at Ibrox whose name I cannot remember) before the Brechin game, said to camera, that they would be in top flight football far quicker than anyone expects.
    The question of their history, IMO the answer is yes the SFA have allowed this to be carried across with the membership. If they had not then there would have been no need for the requirement of Green to accept the outcome and consequences of the dual contract and EBT ruling. Green also stated that there is no evidence of dual contracts in the Chris McLaughlin interview. I think he may be wrong there.
    However despite telling the SFA that they would accept this, two days later they were telling anyone who would listen they would fight this all the way. Therefore not all the conditions have been accepted. And still the membership is being transferred to them.
    In regard to the fit and proper test, was it not D&D who had the responsibility to verify them as fit and proper. Something I cannot understand is, was there not a report of one of the consortium living in the UK because it does not have an extradition agreement with the country he is alleged
    to have committed fraud in. How does he pass the test. Interestingly though Green when asked about his investors in Sundays interview with Chris McLaughlin, only talks about the share issue, nothing about any new investors.
  47. Maybe
    FansAgainstTheMachine – the truth will out.
  48. How about:
    “The truth, the whole truth and nothing like the truth!”
  49. Suggestions for a name: “Internet bampots”
    Hopefully this builds on RTC and takes forward som of the legacy and ethos of RTC. Also that name appears to have been accepted by Stewart Cosgrove and others in the (favourable) Scottish media to represent the comming together of fans on the internet to understand the truth in ways which the MSM cannot or will not do.
    Or,
    Somone on RTC recently suggested “The Rangers Tax case” I like the irony of that.
  50. Agree in holding off a wee bit before settling on a name. Some great suggestions outwith the main three. Spoiled for choice.
    Plenty of time though, since RTC lives on.
    Scottish Football Corruption seems more than appropriate right now.
    PS The main thing is to Toupee the brains from RTC onto the baldy heid of the newco 🙂
    Greetings to all.
    It is indeed important that Scottish football is kept under close scrutiny.
    So.
    What to call this site?
    I’d like to see “integrity bampots” incorporated into the title.
    =======================================================================
    What about “Footballs Integrity Bampots,Battlers Expose Rangers,SFA”
    FIBBERS for short!
    Anyway,thanks for setting up the new blog.My DTs are slowing down already. 🙂
  52. Testing name change (previously Ian58) and posting from phone.
  53. I think the name has to be – as another poster said earlier – a bit po-faced. The various riffs on succulent lamb are all hilarious but I think it would give the MSM one more excuse to either ignore or deride the eventual content. We may want to criticise the media but we also want to engage them.
    If we eventually want the blog to be referred to and the content discussed in the MSM then it has to have at least a veneer of respectability. The great thing about the name of the RTC blog is that it “did what is said on the tin”. Even so, it has only been recently that radio personalities have started mentioning it by name.
    There is plenty of room for humour below the line.
    I am still in favour of “the Scottish Football Something blog” where something is a word like – as has previously been suggested – governance or monitor or future. Using a three letter acronym also reduces the cognitive dissonance for MSM commentators: RTC becomes SFM (or whatever).
  54. So our new tv deal means a loss of just 2m then? A decrease of just 13% on last season. Not exactly Armageddon is it?
    I have redone my analysis of how this will affect St.Johnstone financially (hint: the answer is not very much!). Using the media reports (no firm link though?) that the distribution will be changed so the loss per position is circa 100k, Saints, if performing as they did last season would get 5th place (thanks to no Rangers) and lose just 25k in TV money.
    In news tomorrow: Sky, RM and FF report Saints heading for immediate administration!
    Have to say that I agree. If you have succulent lamb, or anything like that, it gives the blog an image that it’s partisan from the outset. I would suggest that if we want Sevco fans to join in (they are, lest we forget, part of Scottish football as well), then it needs something that states it’s purpose but carries an air of neutrality – something like ‘Scottish Football Unbound’? I’m not saying that it’s a great suggestion, just something like that!
    I’d urge against hammering the msm. It’s distortions within elements of msm. Society needs msm and they’re coming to realise that they need us,
    _____________________________________________
    Except how otherwise can we improve them? By improving their quality they might reverse their decline. The DR and the SS are probably beyond that improvement but the Herald and the Scotsman are in a deplorable state. How many online subscriptions could be sold to exiles like me if the content could be trusted?
  57. Could the Scottish omnishambles, particularly its debt aspects be a mere appetiser for things to come? The EPL has all the appearance of being built on sand – could this be the first visible crack, toxic debt on an unimaginable scale?
  58. Regards suggestions for Blog Name.
    For what it is worth, I think that the new blog should have a positive spin with the name, whilst remaining relevant.
    Unfortunately, I feel that to use some the suggestions that have obvious roots will not help and may lead to the MSM ridiculing the site. For instance, Traynor started referring to ‘succulent lamb’ as if it were a badge of honour, similarly, anything ‘bampot’-ish may be received in the same way. No use giving them a bat to hit the blog with.
    One thing with RTC is that, it was kept simple.
    Ranger’s Tax Case, that was what the site was about, nothing else!
    The simplicity was part of the success. It gave RTC more power to bring the blog back when it went too far off topic.
    In a closing post, I suggested that should he/she come out from the shadows, then a seat for life should be given at every ground in Scotland.
    Thinking further along these lines,
    As fans, we have seats for life, we just have to pay for them every year.
    It would be good for the blog to reflect the paying punter’s input, after all, that is what mobilised the SPL decision to reject Newco from the league.
    so, suggestions:
    Seatforlife
    (as long as you keep us happy)
    Bumsonseats
    (that’s what all boardrooms want)
    As an aside, the new SKY deal may be done, but we should remember how important getting the seats filled at the stadia is. Compare the panic over how the Olympic venues had masses of empty seats. It does not look good, no matter what level you are at. Imagine the power of empty (paid for) seats as a backdrop to TV deals. The logic being that, if the fans cannot be bothered turning up, what is the attraction to TV audiences.
  59. If the new name hasn’t already been decided can I throw another into the hat. “through the turnstile”
    Sorry if it’s already been mentioned, haven’t been able to catch up with the other posts.
