Mr Green and Opportunity Knocks— For Aberdeen?

Good Morning,

In the last week, we have seen a number of strange occurrences in Scottish Football, which if taken together might just point to a very different land than the one we were lead to believe we live in just two short years ago.

First of all there was the report from a firm of well known accountants which pronounced that a significant number of Scottish Football Clubs had, in fact, sold more season tickets for this coming season than they had in the course of the last several years.

Then we had the spectacle of the National team travelling to Wembley and playing very well AND being cheered on by a very large travelling support who appear to have been full of fun and who acquitted themselves well in the big smoke.

This morning I read that today’s match at Pittodrie is a sell out — with the old stadium being packed to the rafters for the visit of Celtic. This is the first time that Aberdeen have been able to sell out the fixture for some 6 years!

Not only that, various Celtic supporting websites have lead with articles saying that the return of a strong Aberdeen and Dundee United are to be welcomed– in fact not only welcomed but positively wished for.

In contrast, stories abound about the in fighting on the Ibrox Board. There are surreptitious share dealings and all sorts of company jockeying being deployed by the rival factions who are trying to gain control of The Rangers. Further, there is the suggestion from some well informed parties that not only will Ibrox and the Albion be sold and leased back to the club to generate much needed immediate cash, but that Murray Park has been sold off completely and will no longer be available to The Rangers for any purpose whatsoever!

Clearly, there are big troubles at the club which will not assist in the stated intention of rising to the very top in Scottish Football.

In between all of this, the debate goes on about Campbell Ogilvie, Press manipulation, the correspondence  between Media House and the SFA, and between The SFA and Ibrox re the relationship between Charlie Green and Craig Whyte and so on.

Standing with my business hat on, I looked at all of this and wondered what it all meant, and pretty quickly reached the conclusion that we are now in a time of supreme opportunity for some of the clubs in Scottish Football—- particularly Aberdeen FC.

There is a view abroad, that in the absence of the “Strong Rangers” that Celtic Football Club will win the SPFL title for almost evermore — or at least until they are toppled from the top spot by the rise of a strong Rangers club somewhere towards the end of this decade or early in the next– because we are assured that they will be back– in one form or another– in a rather Arnold Schwarzenegger  like fashion.

That return or initial rise if you like– its timing and its manner— is dependent on a number of things– not least the exit strategy of Charlie Green and his cohorts.

If it is true that The Rangers are going to part company with Ibrox and the Albion, that they have taken on a loan of funds which attract a rate of interest that amounts to 15% per annum, and that there are set figures for buying the old ( and decaying ) stadium back any time soon, and that they have yet again hawked the season ticket money, then the already flawed Ibrox business plan is burdened even more by interest and rent payments of an additional £3M per annum and rising!

It should also be noted that the accounts for old co from the mid naughties onwards boasted that season ticket sales, merchandising, corporate hospitality and so on had reached unprecedented levels—- but—- the club still did not make an operating profit without strange internals transactions such as the repurchase of media rights which added £15M on to the P&L’s AND the sale of Jean Alain Boomsong!

Accordingly, the current position will not make for good financial reading.

So– let’s presume that in the current climate Celtic are out of sight and will always be champions for ever and a day. What do the rest of the clubs say in the absence of the Ibrox club without whom they have been told they will perish?

Well, If I were in charge of Aberdeen FC I would look out across a city with an inherent population of some 220,000 souls sitting in a county which takes the population up by another 40,000 or so. I would note that the compact city also houses two universities and a number of colleges — all of which attract visitors to the city— and that its position as the oil capital of Europe also draws in a substantial number of itinerant workers.

Further, personal knowledge shows that many who studied at Aberdeen University or Robert Gordon’s in the 80’s left the city as Aberdeen FC fans and no matter where they have ended up in life they still make the journey back to Pittodrie when they can– especially in good times!

Alas, however, Aberdeen has not enjoyed ” Good Times” of late— in fact not really since ……….. the arrival of David Murray at Ibrox!

If you cast your mind back to the pre Murray era, Aberdeen were a force not only in Scotland but Europe as the recent nostalgia re Gothenburg has reminded us.

The city has an economic micro climate which suggests that it can ride economic hardship better than most and so all things considered this current period provides a great opportunity for the Dons.

Unlike Dundee United, Hearts, and Hibs, Aberdeen FC sits in a large one team conurbation and should be on the doorstep of a populace which can fill Pittodrie every single week …… IF that fan base can be motivated.

And there lies the rub– how do you get a notoriously fickle fan base out of the armchair and into the stadium?

The late Bob Crampsey once described Pittodrie by saying ” And there are the masses of Aberdeen fans, masquerading as rows and rows of Empty seats!” yet in their heydey an Aberdeen crowd on a visit to Glasgow were among the noisiest– and to this football fans eyes — the scariest ( in a good sense ) supports to be seen.

Well, at this juncture, Derek McInnes and team need only look at every other football club in the land ( bar Celtic ) and determine that come next May those others will be below them in the league. If Aberdeen maintain a strong league run keeping everyone behind them then there is the possibility of a huge revenue swing in favour of the Dons– such a swing that would put them in an even stronger position for the following year.

Further, Aberdeen are a European name. Perhaps a European name from yesteryear and not the recent past, but the pedigree is there and as such there will be those who remember the heady European Nights both home and away. Reviving those memories and that reputation– at least to an extent– is not beyond the club, and with no disrespect to Motherwell and St Johnstone both of whom are liable to lose key players or even a manager between seasons, Aberdeen may just be of a size to consolidate each year rather than scramble to maintain the momentum of one good season which comes along every now and then.

Financial management and football rewards can go hand in hand when combined properly, and of all the clubs in Scotland who can benefit from a level playing field in terms of proper football governance, Aberdeen FC are uniquely placed in my opinion.

That is not so say that The Arabs, or the Hibees or anyone else cannot benefit– on the contrary— but the Dons are the most obvious candidates in terms of potential structure to really motor forward and regain a by gone status.

Such a situation, and the recognition of that potential, should be borne in mind by all at Celtic Football Club, as last year they struggled for a period in the league while they concentrated on their European exploits. If Celtic want to go further and further in Europe ( and why shouldn’t they ) they will have to be wary of any club which is capable of reigniting its fortunes from a lowly position or a position of having to look back at glory and potential glory rather than looking forward.

Further, with the way things are being organised at Ibrox, there is absolutely no guarantee ( some would say likelihood ) that an eventual challenge to a perceived dominance by Celtic will come from that quarter, and life in the top flight for any returning Rangers could prove very difficult if the likes of Aberdeen get their act together and start to produce the type of home grown team of old.

For now, I sense a degree of optimism about the Dons– not just on the playing front either.  They have a fan base, they have a business model and a good young manager, and any comparative business exercise must conclude that they have every chance of rising above most of their rivals in the league, in terms of revenue, in terms of brand development and business expansion.

If I were an Aberdeen fan I would like to think positive and be ambitious in this climate, whilst at the same time casting an eye back to the days when they were top of the tree.

As one Aberdeen supporting ( but now Edinburgh based ) friend put it to me:

” Ah, those were the days my friend, those were the days……………”

The question is now that the seaon is well under way and the kids are back to school how many more strips can they sell to make the balance sheet look half decent before the AGM?
    =========================================================
Doesn’t really matter now what they sell as the year end for the accounts is 30 June 2013.

    ” IBROX STADIUM:
    THE GREAT STADIUM ROBBERY
THIS DOCUMENT IS A TRUE RECOLLECTION OF EVENTS AT IBROX STADIUM;Please note the names and characters have NOT been changed to hide their identities; These events have been on-going for 7 months and with the FULL knowledge of Brian StockbridgeCraig Mather the internal HR department and George Angus (consultant). We will cover each individual shortly and there background.

Firstly let me tell you a story!Once upon a time rangers had a facilities manager his name was Ross and to be fair to him he did a decent job, then one day in February he was removed from his duties and in effect paid off. He is not allowed to discuss any issues he had at rangers because of a confidentiality clause. What then happened was rather disturbing! Stockbridge brought in a consultancy company called ACTIVE CORPORATE and then allowed a complete stranger to take over a serving member of staff’s office and duties while he (Ross)was still employed as a manager.Rangers HR department where fully complicit in this whole sorry sage taking place and did not take an independent view of what was going on under the strict instructions of stockbridge and Mather. This consultancy company ACTIVE CORPORATE run by a man named as IAIN MORGAN or IAIN ARTHUR MORGAN has been supplying his services since at least February and to this day he is still supplying services (which brings us to one of the points about “the great stadium robbery” this guy has been drawing money from the rangers well at an alarming rate and he even got one of his employees MR GEORGE ANGUS to head the facilities department as an EXPERT! This is another guy who has taken vast sums from rangers in the last seven months.

Meanwhile Stockbridge keeps supplying services to rangers using MORGAN and ANGUS to cover his tracks. What the real fans want to know is how much has ACTIVE CORPORATE taken from rangers since February? The first thing Mather and Stockbridge did once they had decided that the £22M IPO cash was theirs was to actively recruit within the current staff at rangers and get their “insider traders “to allow complete control over the budgets and spending issues.

They then got Jim Traynor to cover the media side of things and head off any awkward questions. The staff members that were recruited under promises of promotion or other devious reasons are:Irene Munro (head of marketing/hospitality) reward for turning directorship! Gordon McAllister (project coordinator) reward for being a dirty rotten scoundrel and personally being involved in getting three colleagues made redundant assistant facilities manager?? This guy is a joke and has absolutely no backbone I know for a fact he was promised the position of facilities manager but due to his complete incompetence stockbridge had to rethink his plan and put GEORGE ANGUS in to the facilities department as an EXPERT, with the full backing of Mather and theclubs HR department (we will come to them shortly)

Ken overmans (accounts controller) this guy is the very worst kind and actually thinks he is doing a great job! I will mention one name CRAIG WHYTE! He helped Whyte single headedly remove over £9M in unpaid taxes and kept it secret in case HE lost his job! He is now doing it again with Stockbridge and Mather. When will the fans demand people like him should not be anywhere near the club god knows how much has went missing into different accounts and sub contract companies with Stockbridge’s full knowledge.

Finally the HR department: this department has blood on its hands; my understanding of a HR department is it is supposed to be fair, impartial and unbiased. They are supposed to assist the employer and employee? Not the rangers HR department led by Claire rinkes and supported by the worst staff member of the year Yvonne whitelock, these two staff members have been heavily involved with the outrageous redundancy process that is taking place and had been on-going since June 2013 they have threatened and bullied and harassed affected staff all under the DIRECT knowledge of stockbridge and Mather. Jim Traynor should hang his head in shame he has bullied and harassed staff since the beginning of May 2013 and was personally involved in getting Lindsay Herron made redundant a shameful act!
Now you know some of the CAST in “the great stadium robbery” please feel free to check them out!

The scams that HAVE taken place since at least December / January is to use several “investors” and then sub contract any / all work to them or their preferred supplier, the scam them involves the said sub-contractors and consultants to overcharge the club and I MEAN overcharge by many thousands and in some instances tens/hundreds of thousands of pounds. This has been allowed to happen by mainly Stockbridge but Mather is well aware of what has been happening using “the insider traders” to cover their tracks within the stadium.

There are a couple of other companies complicit in this “robbery” namely APM contracts ltd another of MORGAN and STOCKBRIDGE’S friends this is the guy who was given the work to upgrade the shops in Belfast and Glasgow airport! He was also slung the job for EDMINSTON house but was not equipped to deal with this rather large contract. This is mainly due to the building being covered in ASBESTOS! He didn’t know how to deal with it so another easy way to drain more cash from the club!Mather has almost admitted that part as he now says the building may be demolished, I wonder who will get that job? There has been NO public tendering for any work at the stadium and Murray Park since January WHY because this allows Stockbridge and Mather to SELECT their companies and friends to fulfil any work required at ranger at VAST EXPENSE this has been happening since January and is still happening today every day.

Stockbridge was already a wealthy man before he arrived at rangers but when you work out how much has went missing and how many companies he and Chico have tied up then you begin to realise it is nothing more than PURE GREED this guy could not even spell rangers, he is not in the slightest bit interested in the club he is only interested in how much MORE cash he can take out!

Mather is slightly different (only in one respect) in that he invested £1M into the club on the promise of running the whole youth setup? Unfortunately he couldn’t hack it and wormed his way into the chief operating officer position (this job was NEVER advertised) and it was put his way by Chico so he had his “insider trader” but now Mather has been exposed for what he really is another money grabber who isn’t in the slightest bit interested in rangers, it’s all smoke and mirrors with him trying to win favour with whoever is in a position of power THIS GUY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED he is greensman!

As discussed the other day it all depends on if we are talking about full accounts or management accounts and which company (RIFCplc or RFCLtd) 😉

The interimm accounts said the following
Revenue from retail sales in the seven month period was disappointing, mainly due to the financial position of JJB Sports and a lack of stock. New retail and manufacturing arrangements are now in place with Sports Direct, Puma and Blackthorn Cider which will generate enhanced retail revenues. However, the impact of this is likely to be felt in the next financial year, ending 30 June 2014, due to slippages in delivery times. It is likely that the first shipment of shirts will occur after the current year end which will have a negative impact on sales for the year ending 30 June 2013. However, in the next year retail sales will be improved as two major kit launches will occur in the same year.

Therefore I am sure they will be trying to paint a rosey picture on the future income. That being said from Willie Vass’ pictures I can’t see masses of puma gear on show in the crowd.

I’ve not been ignoring you, cl.: just getting back into harness and getting round to bringing myself up to date!

My one word response to fergussingsthe blues was untypical ( my ever-loving tells me I never use one word when I could use two or more!).

I had meant to enlarge on it but was ordered to get off the pc by the same ever-loving ( look at the time!)

I think it was the exaggeratedly defeatist tone of fergus’ post that got to me a bit.

I was in a mood to suspect that he was rather enjoying the prospect of the same old same old SFA carrying on in spite of everything, and the anticipation of the new club being in the CL, in spite of its illegitimacy.

I may be doing him an injustice, of course.

If he had not stopped posting( and, of course, he has every right to post his genuine views, and be treated with ordinary decency and courtesy) I would have been happy to beseech him not to be so pessimistic about getting the SFA etc cleaned up.

And cleaned up it will undoubtedly be, if we persist in asking hard , direct questions based on a sensible putting together of all the bits and pieces relating to the SFA’s complicity in the whole matter of RFC’s tax-related downfall, their football finance cheating, Sevco’s purchase from the dodgy Administration, the irregular admission of a new club to the SFA, the extraordinary Bryson interpretation of registration, the continued acceptance of ‘the same club’ concept, etc etc.

The Rangers saga reminds me of the fall of MG Rover and the Phoenix consortium.
    __________________________

Excellent comparison. A group of individuals motivated by self interest who saw a once in a lifetime opportunity to exchange a tenner (IIRC) for a fortune. They ultimately cost 1000’s of people their jobs but departed with sums of money that could have made a difference to regional regeneration instead of being drained from the economy.

As the saga wore on, there were calls for inquiries and investigation from the financial and local press and from loacal and national government. But the long awaited enquiry was toothless and ultimately the 4 were able to apply to be barred from directorships rather than undergo any real sanctions.

Are we to believe that the spivs in charge at the big hoose have anything to fear?

The back story is of course that in the pre season against Sheffield Wednesday T’Rangers fans unfurled a flag in memory of Lee Rigby who I assume was a Wednesday fan. The Wedneday fans loved it. The Rigby family were touched by it and thanked the fans and thus it was taken forward with them being invited to Ibrox and apprently they were going to be presented with the flag.

    ******************

Sorry WOTPI but you are talking nonsense

Lee Rigby had nothing to do with Sheffield Weds – the fans there were as bemused by the events as anyone.

  12. Some 300 year old prescience by Swift on the nature of the role of director of communications at Ibrox:

“His employment, from his first coming into the academy, was an operation to reduce human excrement to its original food, by separating the several parts, removing the tincture which it receives from the gall, making the odour exhale, and scumming off the saliva. He had a weekly allowance, from the society, of a vessel filled with human ordure, about the bigness of a Bristol barrel.”

exiledcelt – I’m sure that wottpi will be along soon enough, but just what might this agenda you refer to be? I think you’ve misinterpreted his intentions.

  16. Blu – I have no idea where this “Lee Rigby was a Sheffield Weds supporter” came from – I have a friend who was at the game (I lived in Sheffield for a number of years and went to the red side of town for football back in the days of Eddie Colquhoun and Tony Currie etc but left before Jinky arrived unfortunately) so have a few contacts in Sheffield. The story that this was done at Sheff Weds due to some connection with the club is absolute nonsense. It all started with the Achil Islam (or rather Island) banner CG and his cohorts got excited about. If you read the article I posted the link to, you will see the connection is tenuous at best – but to state on here it is a connection with Sheff Weds is patently incorrect.

I know WOTTPI from RTC days and know him to be a good poster etc – which is why I was so surprised at todays postings from him

  19. Some further Swiftian wisdom on the nature of corporate recovery strategies. Plan A, if it had been attempted, may have worked. Plan B is now in effect, with consequences as predictable as the are hilarious.

“I was complaining of a small fit of the colic, upon which my conductor led me into a room where a great physician resided, who was famous for curing that disease, by contrary operations from the same instrument. He had a large pair of bellows, with a long slender muzzle of ivory: this he conveyed eight inches up the anus, and drawing in the wind, he affirmed he could make the guts as lank as a dried bladder. But when the disease was more stubborn and violent, he let in the muzzle while the bellows were full of wind, which he discharged into the body of the patient; then withdrew the instrument to replenish it, clapping his thumb strongly against the orifice of then fundament; and this being repeated three or four times, the adventitious wind would rush out, bringing the noxious along with it, (like water put into a pump), and the patient recovered. I saw him try both experiments upon a dog, but could not discern any effect from the former. After the latter the animal was ready to burst, and made so violent a discharge as was very offensive to me and my companion. The dog died on the spot, and we left the doctor endeavouring to recover him, by the same operation.”

    “AGENDA?????”

As I said in my post I ‘assumed’ that Rigby had a connection to Wednesday. If not then no harm done because I put in the caveat of making that assumption.

If I am wrong about the Wednesday fans liking the flag just put me straight in a civil manner and, as I have done before with others, I would reply in the same tone and I will agree to disagree or apologise for my mistake.

My point was that I don’t think that a tragic murder needs to be brought into football, especially by those down Govan way, however the Rigby family seem to be happy with all the events and are willing participants.

It mentions one thing I did not think of before – that the reason they are signing so many players to win Div 1 (3rd tier) of SPFL is to be so many points in front that an administration would have no effect on them being able to be promoted. That I had not considered – I thought it was for the cup runs.

Another interesting point going the rounds on Twitter is that SFA may actually have saved the blushes of TRFC by closing the transfer window on Sat – if they had extended it, then TRFC could have been able to start spending the war chest set aside from the IPO (CG stated 10 million?). Of course any non activity would have had the Bears wondering where the war chest was…………Just as well SFA have closed that avenue until Jan – give Ally more time to look at the targets to spend all that money – or alternatively more time for the war chest to find its way to a separate Xmas hamper fund via Imrahan’s mums account…….

Yes, if calculated administration is in the offing it is hugely unfair on the other teams in that league who are being pumped … triumphantly … week after week. If that’s permitted, fair play and sporting ethics are definitively doon the lavvy.

  29. on 29th August the Scottish Government sent another cheque to the people in charge of Scottish Football – this time for £650,000 for further sponsorship of the League Cup.
The SMSM completely missed the announcment.

    http://news.scotland.gov.uk/News/Scottish-League-Cup-funding-383.aspx

So if anyone is thinking about posting queries on why the people who run Scottish Football are allowed to stay in place – the answer is because the Scottish Government are funding them with our taxpayers money.

Only once this money was threatened would any chance of change come about….

it is up to us to tell the politicians to stop giving them our money……..

As discussed the other day it all depends on if we are talking about full accounts or management accounts and which company (RIFCplc or RFCLtd) 😉
    =====================================================
I think the last five months, like the initial 7 months, will see TRFCL accounts consolidated into the RIFC Plc accounts which are the ones which will ‘technically’ be presented.

I am sure we will get glowing forward looking statements although there could be a problem with one from the Chairman 😆

There has been careful hedging around in recent PR managed stories to change the original story that the £10 million in the kitty was mainly recent ST money as all the IPO cash had gone.

That ‘line’ has subtly changed to one that only a small percentage of new ST money is in the £10 million kitty with the bulk still to arrive. Of course the SMSM have utterly failed to spot or have decided not to question the change.

Of course £1.5 million in the kitty described as ‘income’ from SportDirect to fans at Ibrox apparently is a loan from SportsDirect – surprising for a club with no debt but all depends what the definition of ‘debt’ is I suppose and who knows we might even find out in the accounts.

I just looked up an e-mail chain I had with my local MSP at the time Politicians were lining up to demand special treatment for Rangers, even after they had deliberately withheld millions in tax. I’ll keep them private because that’s what I agreed to do, but his response was along the lines of Rangers being so important and crucial to Scottish football anything at all must be done to ensure they survived – which they didn’t.

Writing to Politicians gets you nowhere.

Thanks for explaining wottpi. I never realised there was previous on this.

You cleared up some of my confusion, but I’m afraid that it doesn’t make the whole affair any better though.
I was taught that it’s important to question my motives and listen to my conscience, ask myself do I have a hidden, perhaps selfish agenda. It’s always stood me in good stead through life.

Call me an old cynic, but I would bet there is an agenda from the sevconians on this one.

  33. I’m currently in correspondence with BBC Trust regarding this article.

Basically the BBC Trust upheld the complaint that BBC Scotland breached its guidelines on accuracy in reporting of RFC.
The Trust upheld the complaint that it was only the company that was in liquidation, not the club.
Check out the sheer hypocrisy & therefore “inaccuracy” of this report when the first line states “the financial collapse of Rangers Football CLUB”.
    What an absolute farcical contradiction.

What I have real difficulty in understanding is in general what Rangers are trying to say with their militaristic stance. Please note I speak in general and not about the events of the weekend. It has to be a worry that a club with such an extreme element among their support regularly engage the military in an apparent move to appease that element. What I ask is who are the military actually for, and is there a general reciprocal leaning from them towards this extreme view from Ibrox? My father, a Celtic fan, spent many years in the Royal Navy. He was a volunteer in the age of conscription and remained so proud of his Navy days until his final hour. I was never inclined to follow his footsteps but I remain proud that he was so proud of his time there. So where does he, and no doubt the many others like him, fit into the identikit a large section of the Rangers support seem to have for the military? Where do the many Celtic fans I know who have spent time with the forces fit in? It is high time someone spoke out about all this, because it is disturbing and God only knows where it might lead. History shows when the attitude is ‘if you’re not with us then you’re against us’, it will all end in tears, to say the least.

  38. If the SFA rewrote the rule book and in so doing opened a floodgate for the spivs to rook the loyal blue then that’s their problem. It is similarly inevitable that once the carcass is picked clean that yet another phoenix will emerge, probably wearing a cardigan and brogues to match the south african tan. However, if the most conflicted ill trusted SFA hierarchy intend rewriting the rules again to get RFC mk3 in the door then it becomes all OUR problem

  39. No matter all the window dressing. AGM/EGM. If there’s not massive wage cuts and redundancies at Sevco it will be Admin all over again. Will liquidation follow, I don’t think so. But really what do we know when it comes down to this mob

  40. Seen a few comments that if the transfer window had stayed open an extra day the Rangers fans would have been up in arms at a lack of signings if there were none. Some of them might have been, but I don’t know a single one who doesn’t think we’ve spent enough already, have got plenty in the tank to win the league already and should save whatever money we have left. Bear in mind that a lot of the most vocal ones on fan sites are generally the biggest muppets.

i’m confused by this…..i thought it was only PLC’s that held AGM’s, private companies don’t need to. And TRFC Ltd is a private company.

RIFC PLC is a public company and is required to hold an AGM, but it is not a year old yet.

Anyway, a private copany CAN have an AGM – so I assume this AGM is for TRFC Ltd – in which case, why is RIFC PLC business working it’s way onto TRFC ltd’s AGM?

Also, if they do get round to having an AGM (either company) don’t they have to send out audited accounts a month before the AGM.

So, we can expect some kinda audited accounts from one or other of the companies ahead of an AGM

Also, if it is TRFC ltds AGM – who will be entitled to attend? All the shares are owned by RIFC – so can any RIFC shareholders attend – or just the board of RIFC?

Or is this all just a bit of a sham?

  45. Not The Huddle Malcontent says:
    September 2, 2013 at 10:34 pm

I was referring to RIFC PLC, who have announced on AIM that they expect to hold an AGM in October. The request for an EGM definitely relates to RIFC PLC- so far as we know, TRFC has no external shareholders, and is owned 100% by RIFC.

If the AGM goes ahead, then audited accounts should be published for that meeting. An AGM without audited accounts would be unprecedented. I believe Mather has said that the audit is currently underway, in his latest Herald interview. The accounts of RIFC will include the results of TRFC. TRFC will eventually have to provide its own audited accounts to Companies House, but not until next February, I believe.

I speak under correction, of course, but I think the SPFL Trust is the recipient of the Government money, not the SPFL itself.
The announcement is very misleading, certainly, and gives the impression that the money is to help fund the League cup.
But it seems not to be. It is to fund the club programmes for the local communities as part of a health initiative.
With guys like Tony Higgins as a Trustee, I don’t think there will be much scope for clubs, or the SPFL, to cream off any of the money for other purposes….?!

Therealranger has been plugging away at this for a few months on some rangers websites, although that’s far more detail than he’s produced thus far. I can remember the boy posting Iain Morgan’s Active Corporate business card up at the time. There are 63 items on my search history – but I obviously didn’t come up with anything juicy at the time. Thanks for the link.

  52. I know it’s redundant to expect a questioning media, even from the Scotsman, when it concerns ‘The Rangers’, but I look forward to the great unravelling when it comes. The latest objection to the EGM request reported in said organ has been flipped to a noble cost-cutting exercise rather than a discussion of the substance of the challenge. Even the validity of the requisition is tainted by “No authentication has been provided for the purported shareholdings of the other requisitioners.” even though the threshold has been met and no further authentication is necessary.

The most basic instinct of any journalist to ask “Why am I being told this?” seems to have been discounted as a natural response.

“The board has now received authentication for one of the requisitioners, being Chase Nominees Limited a/c Artemis (“Artemis”) who hold 5 per cent or more of the issued share capital and voting rights of the company. No authentication has been provided for the purported shareholdings of the other requisitioners.

“The board confirms the validity of the Requisition on the basis of the authentication provided by Artemis.”

I’m sure this has already been covered by others more erudite than me, but it’s just another example of the complete absence of scrutiny we have grown to expect. Even the recent interview with Mather where it seemed like the questions were supplied at the same time as the answers, glibly lets slip that the MH contract was ‘only renewed’ despite reports from the principals that it has been terminated. In a cost reducing environment, why renew? It could easily have paid for an expeditious EGM.

Sorry for the ramble, but every now and again the frustration with what we are spoon fed bubbles over.

  57. re the military theme at Ibrox. In my humble opinion it is all in some ways orchestrated by those desperate to retain the Union thus ensuring when the vote comes it and the Union flag are retained. It is all very much about positioning. I’m certain that our Tangoed friends have a large influence on this especially those with NI connections.
Slightly OT but those who live in NI will appreciate the murals on the walls in Unionist areas where there is a lot in terms of remembrance of those who fought and died in the likes of the Great War. My hat goes off to anyone who fought in both World wars or any conflict as a British soldier, my Grandpa included. What I do object to is the impression generated by these people that only Unionists fought in the likes of Great War and came to the call of our country. A fact that is often ignored by our Tangoed friends in what is now NI is that Ireland as a whole provided over 200k recruits and over half of these came from Catholic backgrounds, only in the north of Ireland was that percentage higher.

And with that post you have to a very large extent, redeemed yourself in my eyes. I doff my cap in deference to you sir.

    To the rest of us;
I think it would be fair to say that the symptoms displayed by Mr Singstheblues of being, for want of a better term; “pissy seek” of this whole nonsense are not exclusively his. I will admit to uttering the phrase “What’s the point” skywards on many occasion, only to be bouyed by the belief that it is a true cause we are fighting.
I cannot abide corruption, unfairness, meanness of spirit, greed, bullying, injustice etc. etc. It matters not who the victim is unfortunately, if I feel there has been a wrong I will fight to correct it.
We must stay strong, we must continue to chip away at the mirrors, the untruths and the downright lies. Yes there will be days where we don’t all see eye to eye, that’s what being part of a non-partisan group for change is all about.
We know the evidence of Hillsborough now. We know the facts. We know where the ‘guilt’ resides. And yet it took the best part of a quarter-of-a century for our leaders to deign to reveal the truth to the masses. Think about that for a second. 25 years. Twenty five long years it took those grieveing families to have, what they knew to be the truth, revealed and acknowledged as such in public.
I am not for a nano-second comparing the Hillsborough tragedy to the comedy-farce emanating from both Mount Florida & Edmiston Drive. The point I make though, is that it could be a long time before we see, what us bampots, would consider to be ‘truth-outed’ and ‘justice served’.
That means we have to settle down for the long haul, get comfy, make friends. And lets not try to alienate those who, though they may not wear the same colour of shirt as you, are chanting the same slogans and demanding the same results. I think, broadly we are all after the same thing. I’ll even postulate that there are Sevco fans (re. RyanG) who would like to see the naked truth on display.
Simple point of the matter is “Together we stand, divided we fall.”

Scottish football needs you, me, everybody, everybody…

  59. As a side note, and totally OT… Did messrs Waters & Gilmour have a crystal ball when they were writing ‘Dogs’…?!!

  60. I have been coming in and out of the forum for the past few months – before I was a daily poster. I too am getting post spiv fatigue. I think my hopes got raised then dashed by CF – I keep thinking that something will come out on the SFA/SPL that will force the current occupants of the offices to get out of town. So far it has not happened.

I recently read the book by Tom Watson – Dial M for Murdoch (great read – recommend it) where there was patience and luck involved in getting the establishment to finally admit the covering up it was doing alongside Murdoch and his crew.

We are in a similar situation. We need a Gordon Taylor/For Neville email moment – we need a journalist to take an interest in investigating the corrupt decisions that have been done in our name in the last 12 months. We need someone with a conscience to be horrified that the same financial crisis that managed to screw us all out of millions is not finished and make them accountable for the situation where billions are now gone somewhere else while we pay for it. The whole RFC tragedy has the same issues for me as the banking crisis – its now apparently perfectly legal for what the spivs are doing – taking the hard earned money from Rangers fans and moving it out of reach. The average Rangers fan will have spent in the last 6 months maybe 500 to 1000 pounds on shares/season ticket/merchandise. And pretty soon they will have nothing to show for it. While Charles is having a Mai Tai on his yacht while texting his boardroom friends to compare bank balances, people who could not afford to buy shares but were driven by media and SFA/SPL compliance to fund this nonsense, will be out of pocket and wondering where their money has gone.

I feel sorry for the average man who did what all of us (see Dunfermline and Hearts) would do – come through for their club in time of need

What I abhor is the Spivs who will get away with it (SDM, CW and CG) but most of all the facilitators in all of this – CO, SR, DL and ND.

Once the facts come out my fear is that there WILL be Armageddon and many of us WILL WALK once we know how compliant and accommodating they were to ensure RFC “continued” at any cost.

I love my team, I love my sport, I cherish my memories of attending games at club and national level – my exhilaration at watching on TV Joe Jordan’s header against Czechs or Archie Gemmill meandering through the Dutch defence – all of this is for some unknown reason all ingrained in me. Its quite sad – I can never remember who all attended my wedding but I know very well who Celtic played on my wedding day, the result and the scorers. It will all go for naught unless someone cleans up Scottish football. And soon!

I have had so many hopes of the cavalry coming over the hill to help – HRMC, BDO, Mark Daly, Thommo, RTC, Charlotte – but all for naught so far. Still waiting for that bugle call……

Scottish Football needs a strong detox and enema!

Accountancy is not my profession, but since the days of Fergus McCann, I have always had full confidence in the audited accounts issued by Celtic, good or bad. I did not pay a great deal of attention beforehand and I’m not too sure just how transparent the accounts issued publicly under the old regime were, when it was a Private Company. Since McCann’s days we have seen the accounts saying the club are in the black, and we have seen them showing around £30M of debt, but they have always been issued on time and are fully transparent.

Going back to the Phil article you refer to, just how easy would it have been for one of the main titles to have run the accounts past an expert and printed the same? Instead I am told the quite absurd Radio Clyde allowed a caller to claim Celtic were £34M in debt and were hiding it in the accounts. I am sure they knew it was absolute, total nonsense, but they were quite happy for others, who are equal in their stupidity to the caller, to believe it. I can only assume the arrangement Neil Patey has with Radio Clyde does not extend to discussing the authenticity of Celtic’s accounts.

On a different topic I actually chose to listen to Radio Clyde last night for the first time this season. I lasted less than 15 minutes, during which I all I heard was Hugh Keevins deriding Celtic and their fans, and a complete buffoon in Derek Johnstone talking more nonsense than the drunk at the end of the bar everyone tries to avoid. Shame on me.

The hegemony that was the Old Firm has for the time being been reshaped to the exclusion of Rangers: old club/new club doesn’t matter their support represented their ticket to the big table. Celtic now control unilaterally. It is the nature of the universe for systems to evolve, plateau and subsequently atrophy. The issue in this case is will the period it takes for the decay of Celtic’s dominance be longer than the system that is Scottish football can take.
Fans of the team that occupies Ibrox have been united and motivated by adversity, they feel aggrieved at the powers that be (irrationally in the view of most other fans who view their troubles as self inflicted) and see their journey back to the SPL as a revenge mission. This has generated the ludicrous and impressive level of season ticket sales to watch the most mediocre of fare. By dint of their enforced occupancy of lower divisions it will be 2 years, assuming sequential promotion and avoidance of further financial meltdown, before they are once again in the same division as Celtic but one surmises it will be considerably longer before they are regarded as in their league. Therein lies the rub, the Ibrox fans can just about tolerate Celtic’s domination when they are in a different division and can’t do anything about it, they can be regarded as fortunate that they didn’t encounter Celtic last year in a cup, the likely result could have been embarrassing and demotivating.
On return to the SPL however their expectations will change, they will allow one or two maybe even 3 seasons to pass before starting to question whether this is worth the candle but if Celtic were to continue towards 10 in a row would their appetite remain?, I’m not sure. Will the season ticket sales dwindle if they are constantly being defeated/thumped by their most bitter rivals?, you’d have to imagine they would (based on what happened in the 60s/70s). The solution to establishing Rangers domination in the 90’s was to spend millions on millions, that option in the absence of a middle east sugar daddy is unlikely to present itself. Their best hope is to ‘luck’ into a squad of gifted youngsters much like Celtic did in the 60s, however given the forensic scouting systems of the major European teams desperate to discover Gareth Bale or Ronaldo as a youngster it’s much more difficult to do that these days.
If season ticket sales start to ebb it becomes a self fuelling spiral downwards and the hegemony could be changed forever, time will tell.

Maybe Mr Bryson is just running over the new recruits contracts in case they get into a pickle again . 💡

I don’t think there’s any problem with them being signed outside the window as free agents, the problem is that they’re limited (as I understand it) to 3 league games and one cup game each as trialists. So TRFC have to make their minds up. Surely they aren’t planning on using these trialists to the max, and then not give them contracts? That really would be lacking in dignity 🙄

I would be surprised if the trialists are cast aside as that really would pique the hordes gullible-ometer
More chance of Law been given the deal he expected as he had shown to be an asset (saleable) on the park .
The others may have found a 6 month deal to get the spivs to the xmas lock in and are reluctant to put pen to paper
    just my opinion though
