In keeping with the spirit of the podcast, reflecting on a number of different issues in Scottish Football, I too, in my day job had a very interesting conversation today, with an executive from a satellite broadcasting company, who was forthright about the challenges affecting him in his business. Namely the lack of interest in the Scottish game and specifically the need to get The Rangers, back in the top division of Scottish Football, as quickly as possible.

He cited a number of factors, poor viewing figures, lack of attendances at games and crucially for them fewer subscriptions, as contributing factors as to why the Scottish game is languishing at present, especially behind the EPL. I don’t have enough technical information to verify these?

I am aware however that the EPL receives billions in revenue, while Scotland literally gets the crumbs from the table!!

When I asked him about the current TFRC financial position, he indicated that he knew it was bad, but could not see an insolvency event taking place. Either this is inside information or complete stupidity?

I challenged him to suggest ways that the game in Scotland could be improved without the O*d F**m paradigm and he indicated that he couldn’t see another way. It is the moneyspinning game(for them) and raises the profile of the brand across the UK & beyond…….and he did not like my retort that doctors, nurses and the police wouldn’t agree with him 😥

So, there you have it. The fate of Scottish Football lies in the hands of TRFC getting back to the top division, as quickly as possible and normal service being resumed.

SPFL TV anyone?

TSFM Says
My feeling is that this is a very accurate description of what our football has become to those down south. A sideshow. The EPL is the glittering carnival and Scotland provides the Bearded Lady, the geek, or some other Freak Show.
Sadly, after 100 years of proof that sectarianism pays, I find it difficult to argue with that charge.
English audiences enticed to come and watch the feral dogs at play to a backdrop of songs of hate, and the authorities in Scotland ever anxious, Uncle Tom-like, to ensure that it is provided at all costs.

Do we have so little respect for ourselves that we are happy to play the hillbillys?

Sadly yes.

Unfortunately, I concur with your depressing analysis and unless our game finds some outstanding leaders with vision to create a new paradigm, I fear we’re destined to constantly repeat the past!

It Is Better To Offer No Excuse Than A Bad One

Yes, the continuing myopia that characterises the unthinking element of that support. I can’t think of one reason, logical or otherwise, why King would waste another thin dime on that business, pre-supposing of course, that he has been doing that previously, because with him, one never actually knows?

What was clear from my friends’ reactions last night, and the discussion, which ensued, is the decision by the COS, has a similar feel to the days of administration, and the CVA being rejected, it feels seismic?

It Is Better To Offer No Excuse Than A Bad One
This is an annual post for me. Was out last night with all my friends, and we’re split down the middle between Celtic & Rangers fans. My RFC friends have been very quiet for some time, there’s been general chit chat about football, but nothing, repeat nothing specific about the travails of the club currently operating out of Ibrox? It’s just too painful for them to discuss….

Last night was different. I prompted the conversation by asking “who’s getting a Xmas bonus then & selling their shares at 20p”?

To a man, all three said yes, the sooner the better. All had purchased a £500 package of shares in the IPO, as a way of giving their “club” some much needed revenue, after Green assumed control. For all three, it was an emotional investment, now however, they’d seen events unfold, and coldly realised this was the best deal they were going to get, and have absolutely no problems, of selling them at the first opportunity

I don’t know what this says about the wider supporter base of smaller shareholders, but if it’s a pattern, then Mr King might have a big dunt in his £11m?

Who Is Conning Whom?

As Celtic are the only member club, thus far, to ask the SFA, to re-examine this issue, and should your deduction prove to be true, what are Celtic’s options at that point?

Can they take it further, presumably to Uefa, or even a judicial review? Would the Res 12 group on Celtic’s behalf look to promulgate this further?

Could it be, that if what you say might happen, actually happens, does that open the door to Celtic potentially going “all guns blazing”?

I would certainly welcome that…;

Who Is Conning Whom?
So, it seems that there is great online interest in this potential CW book? Is it a Hitler Diaries episode or the real thing?

6 years ago, I would’ve been salivating at such a product, but now, after everything that’s happened, I must confess, that my interest has completely waned, given that simply, we know more or less the full story?

However, one outcome would change my thinking, and that is, if such a book shines a light, on the collusion, and corruptness of the SFA, SPL, & all the nefarious individuals, involved at the time, including the clubs, and hopefully leading to the removal of these individuals, and significant structural change, in the way that Scottish football is governed.

Indeed, if CW can be the catalyst of this type of change, then perhaps, he is the John the Baptist figure, that we’ve all been longing for, and he can rest assured that I’ll be spending quite of a bit of my children’s Xmas present money on his tome.

Enough is enough

I nearly choked on my Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, when reading Cluster’s suggestion. Can you imagine the meltdown of the Bearmacht, if the SFA moved lock, stock & barrel into the new CP Hotel, when built-:))

Unseen Fenian Hand indeed, but would potentially deliver such top comedy, as to be seriously considered
