King is a moron and an embarrassment.

The only thing i agree agree with him on is that without EBTs Rangers would still have signed and paid those players, at least in the early days, Murray was on enough of an ego trip and had enough easy access to funds that he’d have got them anyway, the only difference is that the whole show would have come crashing down a lot quicker than it did. So probably around the time of the Lehmans crash all of a sudden Rangers players would go unpaid and the club would have folded.

But yeah, King is a moron. What in earth is he thinking drawing attention to the fact that he was closely involved in that whole fiasco? If you can’t say anything sensible say nothing at all.

And the team team is an utter embarrassment as well. Shouldn’t miss the opportunity to say that.

Upthehoops, thanks for your response. I’ve recognised my club’s weaknesses on here many times, but the justification given for support of clubs in Europe here is always that they are the Scottish representatives, which Rangers were. You can’t claim (and I don’t mean you particularly) to support the Scottish representatives but then exclude some because they aren’t financially well managed. Rangers mk II have been run at a loss but have broken no rules, and are not the first club in Scotland or in Europe to have been run at a loss. Again, I have been a vocal critic on here of the Rangers administration, but if people are on here claiming to support the Scottish representatives but making an exception for Rangers then I say they are hypocrites.

Jimbo you were not as vocal in your support for Scottish representation in Europe when Rangers were (briefly) involved. Neither was anyone else here, somewhat disappointingly.

Allyjambo I agree that if you grant the premise of what I’m saying, the use of EBTs becomes an even bigger disgrace. I was not and am not attempting to mitigate any of Rangers’ actions by what I said. And as Homunculus noted in his post, my position is simply that without cheating Rangers would just have gone bust sooner, I don’t believe that there was any more appetite back then for living within their means than there is under the current regime at Ibrox. I am also, for the avoidance of doubt, not trying to legitimise the trophies which were won while this practice was going on – I now realise that it may appear that I was. Wilfully misregistered players and massive tax fraud seems to me to be sufficient grounds to put an asterisk next to the titles won while the practice was going on. At the very least.

Congratulations to the Scotland team tonight for a great result, looked like a goal would never come due to that intrepid crossbar but it’s great to see a Scotland side look as accomplished as we have recently. Just think where we’d be if we’d kept our concentration in the last minute against England!

Auldheid,

”Now on what is objectionable to others: songs that are inward celebrating might cause offence to others but they are the ones taking offence, it is not being offered to or aimed at them. It is something intolerant in them that sparks the offence taken.”

By your criteria above, it would be perfectly acceptable for a group of fans to turn up at a football ground singing “Ode to Isis” and as long as it was inward looking, it would be the fault of the rest of the crowd if they were offended.

I usually read your posts with interest and respect your views, but I find this stance ridiculous.

I spelt the last “Whyte” incorrectly. I’m embarrassed.

Well I for one am glad the trial happened and glad we have reached an outcome.

While I don’t think, on the basis of the evidence heard, Mr Whyte is, for want of a better phrase, “whiter than white”, I do think the trial laid clear the trail of evidence as to who was responsible for what befell Rangers.

Rangers werent in the verge of bankruptcy in 1988 when they were purchased by Sir David Murray, but they sure as hell were when he sold them. Mr White may have greased the wheels in the end but the tracks were laid by Sir David Murray. And I think you’d be a fool to think otherwise.
