Comment on Why We Need to Change by Robbyp.

I read a DR article this morning by the Ex-Everton and England player Peter Reid. It was very complementary about the Celtic fans and Celtic Park on a European night. As I was reading I was thinking that it was so refreshing to read something by a former professional player that did not mention how desperate everyone is to have Rangers ‘back’ in the top division. That is until I reached the final sentence:

“Reid might be a Hoops fanatic but he’s hoping their old rivals Rangers get back to the top flight as soon as possible.”

Not a quote. Not linked to anything previously mentioned. Just something stuck on at the end of the article that has absolutely no relevance to the article itself.

Boy oh boy, talk about flogging a dead horse?

This particular horse, expired, decomposed and turned to dust a long time ago.

Time for Scots Government to Take Bull by the Horns
I just fired off a couple of emails to both Puma and 32 Red, to ask for their thoughts on being associated with a club at the centre of the biggest sporting scandal in British history.  I’ll report back any response.  Don’t hold your breath though.

Time for Scots Government to Take Bull by the Horns
I wonder if anyone can cite a precedent anywhere in the world, in any sport, that comes close to what we have witnessed here?

In terms of the length of time that the cheating went on, the number of people involved and the amount of money involved, and geographical spread of the cheating, I would suggest that this is the biggest sporting scandal in history!

Compound that with the involvement of a manager of a major banking institution and his ‘friendship’ with a Knight of the Realm, who went on to become the biggest benefactor of the huge illegal payments scheme and we have a story of quite staggering importance.

Surely, after today’s decision, the MSM and the football authorities can no longer ignore this national and international scandal which may well have wider implications for the individual players involved and the English leagues as well.  Surely?

Or is it just too big to report?

Journey’s End?
With regards to Souness’ claims that his 30,000 EBT was in return for scouting services in between jobs, can anyone throw some light on how much professional clubs normally pay for scouts?

I used to believe that this role tended to be done by some old retired bloke, who would spot a young players whilst out exercising his dug.

Of course things may have moved on a bit since then, but 30,000 EBT or otherwise, for a couple of months ‘casual’ work, in between ‘real’ jobs, would seem to indicate that this is an extremely lucrative number.

So, how many players did he actually find in this time?

Does anyone know where I can get an application form?

SFM – The Next Steps

“Rangers need a wise, experienced coach, with a track record of success and an intimate knowledge of Ibrox and the expectation of supporters, to lead them for the next 12 months.”

Naw Barry, they need a manager who can work on a shoestring budget, bring on young players and ignore the fact that they are light years behind Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hearts etc and may be so for years to come. Walter?…seriously?

“The bottom line is football never leaves you. I’m supposed to be on holiday but my phone is still glued to my ear every day conducting business for Clyde. It’s all consuming, but we do it because we love it.”

Presumably in between writing pro Rangers articles In the Daily Record every other day.
