Following on from the ‘tapping up’ queries earlier wrt Scott Allan…

We now have the bold Barry Ferguson putting his name to a lengthy article in the DR, and as per, no mention whatsoever of his own club Clyde, as it’s all about The Rangers.
With his name on the article, he is quoted;

“…Everyone knows Allan is a Rangers fan. It’s no secret. Now he’s apparently ready to tell Hibs he wants to go. It puts the Edinburgh club in a total jam…”

It’s one thing for a journalist to print unsubstantiated speculation – but what about the manager of an SPFL club making comments about 2 other clubs ?

And just how does Ferguson ‘know’ that Allan is ready to tell Hibs he wants to go ?

Should an SPFL Manager not be careful about what is printed under his name in the SMSM – and especially when he is commenting on other clubs’ contracted players ?

Is this not deserving of a disrepute charge from the SFA ? [I know…]

Ferguson needs to wind his neck back in, IMO… 🙄

Why We Need to Change
Extracted from Barry Ferguson’s column in the DR today;

“BY the end of Sunday, BARRY Stubbs’ remarks will either hit their mark or blow up in the Leith gaffer’s face…”
The article is of course all about TRFC.

…but “BARRY Stubbs” ?!

Reminds me of the old story about Bobby Robson when manager of England calling Bryan Robson ‘Bobby’, to which he replied; “No I’m Bryan, you’re Bobby.”

And that typo has remained on the DR article online for 13 hours now, so they don’t bother reading their own rubbish either ? :slamb:

Why We Need to Change
Re: SMSM print content quality and online presence

I was attracted to the RTC site because I was fascinated at the seemingly obvious fact that a huge sports story was being actively ignored by the SMSM – and that at some point a huge, handbrake U-turn was inevitable in their negligent ‘reporting’.

Wrt print media, when I first started buying a paper as a student, I confess that I bought the DR. The main content I didn’t rate, but I bought it specifically for the footie coverage ! I know now…ignorance is bliss.

Later I bought the Daily Mail, which was OK but tended to be London-centric, even in the supposed ‘Scottish Edition’. Then it started to go more right wing and downhill.

Then I started buying The Times. Painfully aware it was a Murdoch rag, it did however contain some decent, in-depth articles.

Now when I go home I don’t buy any papers.

We all know the print copy sales are falling off a cliff, so the SMSM newspapers’ future is online.

However, I have noticed more so in recent years that the online newspapers are dreadful. Their content seems to be driven by online viral videos, Twitter hashtags, and blatant adverts posing as ‘journalism’.
My daughters now check the Daily Mail online to get all the recent nonsense on the Kardashians, [I KNOW !].

So my point is, whilst we would like to see the quality of the SMSM sports reporting improve, I have not seen anything yet that should give us hope: quite the opposite in fact. The coverage of TRFC, the SFA, the non-SPL clubs has been as poor as ever.

So perhaps reinforcement that there will still be a huge gap to fill for supporters to get decent, online footie coverage – and SFM has a viable opportunity to plug some of that gap.

And to put into perspective: could you imagine the ‘Multiple Award Winning’ Keef Jackson being able to post a decent blog on this site ?
That is not intended to be smug about the quality of SFM content, but being critical of the dearth of quality amongst the SMSM sports ‘journalists’. :slamb:

Phil is now, with some justification, throwing cold water on the auditor story, and add to that the fact that it is now quite a few days since the ‘RIFC have/nearly have an auditor’ story broke…
IMO, the announcement of new auditors could be significant reality check.

It is highly unlikely to be another one of the Big 4, like Deloitte.
IMO, it will more likely be a small, unknown outfit.

There had been reports of concerns about staff safety, [by Deloitte ?], so which auditor would take on RIFC/TRFC with this known risk ?

And, unlike with the previous club 🙄 an association with TRFC and its related PR nightmare would definitely not be prestigious: the reputational risk might not be worth the audit or consulting fees.

Just how far down the ‘auditor league’ does RIFC/TRFC have to go to engage an auditor ?

It Is Better To Offer No Excuse Than A Bad One
Just a wild idea…

But, what if King declared himself bankrupt?
[Well in a court recently, he did claim he was ‘penniless’].

Of course anyone who knows of the glib and shameless one would assume King would have assets hidden, or in his wife’s name – a la wee Bazza?

Would bankruptcy effectively kill off the TOP sanctions?

At this point it seems that King’s reputation is ruined in Scotland – and with the bears and even with the SMSM?

King’s time is up playing charades as ‘the Rangers saviour’, and he must – you would think – be thinking about preserving his remaining wealth as he approaches retirement…?  09

Mibbees after 20 years of failure, the national team and the SFA don’t deserve a dedicated, national stadium?

And Hampden is simply not worth keeping as a football venue for mainly sentimental reasons, IMO.

CO, I think Phil’s scoop about the manner of Nicholl’s appointment deserves a: Wow Just Wow!
It displays how dysfunctional the management structure at Ibrox has become, and you would think, it is a massive red flag.
[Apart from having no cash.]

I also have my fingers and toes crossed that in 2018 my £20 bet on TRFC finishes bottom 6 comes in – with the help of an Admin. event.

[Thanks to fellow Bampots for the tip: interestingly Sky wouldn’t accept a £50 bet for a 150/1 long shot…]

All the best for 2018 Bampots!

And just have to add this headline from the esteemed DR, so it must be true;

“Bluenoses out of joint as Rangers pub to be turned into gay sauna’s bar”

Couldn’t possibly comment on the article…but a couple of sentences did jump out as sounding familiar;

“…Annie Millers was one of Glasgow’s most hardcore Rangers haunts and it was a real shock for a lot of fans when it closed last year.
A lot of drinkers were hoping that someone might rescue the pub so it could reopen as it was before. This definitely won’t happen now…

Guessing it’s quiet as the Bampots have been out watching the footy…or getting dragged around the shops by their better half for the sales ?!

Wife told me last night about the Dembele ‘sale’.
Immediate reaction was that it was nonsense from the SMSM.

There ‘could’ be some truth in it: e.g. an off-the-record tip from either CFC or Dembele’s agent, perhaps to simply instigate a bidding war ?

But, my initial reaction to any big story is to always doubt the SMSM’s veracity: the lamb munchers were exposed a long time ago…and it’s a surprise that the DR in particular is still on sale in hard copy format.

If he is sold for X millions, how will the SMSM / Level42 spin that as ‘bad news’ for CFC…and bad for Scottish football ?  22
