About the The Scottish Football Monitor

The purpose of The Scottish Football Monitor is to pay homage to, and carry on the work of the groundbreaking RangersTaxCase blog (RTC). The aim of the Scottish Football Monitor is to cast a questioning and watchful eye on Scottish Football officialdom and the compliant mainstream media (MSM).

Scottish football, in the immediate wake of the Rangers FC liquidation, faces great challenges. The MSM have provided no sensible checks or balances on the actions of the authorities. The Scottish Football Monitor aims to provide those checks and balance.

The cosy relationship that has existed between the media and people at the top of Scottish Football has dissuaded those who may otherwise be moved to blow the whistle on wrongdoing. The Scottish Football Monitor aims, through time, and by winning the trust of ordinary fans, to fill a gap in the football media in Scotland that has been up to now filled only by RTC.

The Rangers FC saga, its consequences, and consequences of the accompanying stream of untruths and misdirection fed to us by the MSM is far from over. RTC was successful in getting the previously buried truth of the Rangers tax case into the mainstream despite a hostile MSM reaction. The Scottish Football Monitor hopes to use the skills and expertise of those in our community to a cast light on matters that those in authority would have concealed, or at least present alternative arguments to those being presented as having none.

Scottish Football Monitor asks contributors to remember only a few things;

1. The site is not the domain of any one club and is open to fans of all clubs.

2. Absolutely no discussion with regard to religion should take place.

3. Posters should refrain from using foul or abusive language.

interesting question, you’d think they would have to pay their football debts before making new signings!

  3. Having barely “mastered” this electronic medium, I have to admit that Twitter is beyond me.
Can anyone put some flesh on the bones of the KDS whisper earlier this pm re Walter Smith and an injunction?

  4. Just curious as to why people believe Sandaza etc are on 5K per week??? Why would newco pay a man on the dole 5K per week? Is this not just media spin and guessing from the media. I think so.

  5. I’ve just been reading Arthur Hopcraft’s magisterial The Football Man from 1968. In one chapter he discusses the thorny issue of journalists becoming too close to clubs and the subsequent lack of objectivity. Perhaps the following is an early identification of succulent lamb journalism: “One has only to sit in a Press box when a Scottish club team is playing an English one to note this partisan alignment of reporter with club at its most obvious.”

I also think that elements within the MSM are over-hyping rangers transfer activity just as they have always done – the fitba season has started again so it’s back to business as usual for them.
Kevin Kyle was touting himself around clubs on a pay as you play basis on the back of his 18+ months out with serious long term injury. I seriously doubt he’s even on a fraction of the reputed wages unless Rangers really have learned nada during the last 2 decades.

  7. Of course I should have said SFL3 not SPL3, apologies, caught up in indignation.

It may be of course that CG is signing as many players as possible to compensate for the manager’s incompetence. If there’s enough of them they should manage to win despite the manager.

    DP and Thornlyboy

One of the revelations of the RTC and TSFM blogs has been the coming together of fans of pretty much all flavours. Rational discussion, conducted in a calm and generally fairly respectful manner (with the occasional bit of banter) – you guys have got it sussed.

Personally, I would be delighted if we could reach a situation where there was a team playing on the southside of Glasgow that did not carry forward all of the negative baggage. Unfortunately it is abundantly clear that the SevcoZombie is not that entity. I’m with you (DP) on this: it needs a completely new start. Whether the liquidation process can produce the space needed to achieve that? Fingers crossed for you.

In the meantime, I have developed a big soft spot for the SFL teams that stood up for sporting integrity. In my case, I think Raith Rovers are my new second team thanks to the actions of Turnbull Hutton. It might never be the same as a first love, but it could have merit?

Scots (and Glaswegians in particular) can spot chancers at a 100 paces.

I was thinking only yesterday, in relation to some of my own actions over the years, of the oft-quoted PG Wodehouse line “It is never difficult to distinguish between a Scotsman with a grievance and a ray of sunshine.”

The reality is that Rangers actions (both Old & New) have given every Scotsperson outwith their support (and some within…) a grievance. And they are compounding it on an almost daily basis. This is a case study in how to destroy a club….

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why the TDs for this ?

There’s no way new shiny Rangers are paying anything like the figures being bandied about in the press. This is a PR exercise to drum up ST sales. Hionestly , £5k pper week for Kyle ?

  11. Just listened to the last nights Sportsound podcast. Billy Dodds stating that money was never discussed in the dressing room – ever.

Doesn’t wash Billy. If there is one thing that players talk about in the dressing room, its money. The bigger egos boast about their wages and they all compare. It’s the biggest source of dressing room unrest, apart from a crap manager. Players have even been heard boasting about their wages and conditions on the pitch to wind up and sledge their opponents.

International get togethers were and are another great boiling pot of comparing wages and conditions and all the great managers of Scottish clubs used to dread their players mixing with the Scots that played for Engllsih clubs as they would come back discontented.

    Sorry Doddsie, another porky pie

  12. We must all stick together on here, I understand some are upset by them making ridiculous signings on around £5000 per week (Hearts fans still owed for there player etc) But there is a far bigger issue at the moment, Ally is signing these players and I believe putting his club under a financial strain ( like his great friend also done) as can you imagine he did not win every game in Division 3, the sevconians would be irate.

Surely this is far more important going forward ?

  13. I thought Bocanegra & Goian were going?
Why are they signing Strikers & Midfielders?

    6m Scottish FA ‏@Scottish_FA
@Hullbhoy As per 5-way agreement, club are in process of repaying football debt both in Scotland and abroad.

I would have thought this would have been concluded BEFORE any further players could be registered. Goodwill works both ways, if the embargo was suspended then the rest of the conditions should be met.

Does anyone know if any Season Tickets are being sold for the Club Deck?, not opening tonight.
As it is tied in with the Albion car park just wondering if it will be open or shut all season and bring into question the ownership..

  14. And as for the Armageddon talk, if as the MSM tried but failed to get goodwilly to sign for the died club last year, would Dundee Utd not be in the same boat now as let’s face it they never intended to pay for him.

Can’t believe I could feel sorry for Hearts (sorry Allyjambo and others) but you where shafted, just surprised Vlad fell for it, they where bidding £250,000 then suddenly it was over a million, and our answer is to look for other ways to accommodate them.

Totally agree Scotland ,famously at the height of the Souness era,the RFC players wound up the Celtic players in the tunnel before Old Firm games, making remarks like ‘I get paid more than you’

The money side of modern football is indeed an ugly aspect and I fully echo the sentiment of Sarah Leyden in relation to the Sandaza purchase.Obscene, quite obscene.

  16. Cannot confirm the money quoted for KYLE, Black’s figure of 6.5K per week and a 1.5K pay per play bonus is correct according to sources.

  17. With 2 strikers in Kyle & Sandaza & 2 midfielders in Black & Shiels will Andrew Little & Kyle Hutton now sit on the bench again?
Did Little know of other signings when he signed a new contract?

I hope there were sanctions built into this five way agreement if a party did not fulfill their obligations. The SPL, SFA and SFL have met theirs, but what about Sevco? In the process of meeting their agreements? Hmmm, what if they do not complete these processes / payments?

Are we expected to believe that in the event of Sevco not paying debts, the SFA / SFL will suspend or expel them? After all the rule breaking to keep them? Would they fine them? (no laughing at the back).

The sanctions, if any, should be published in advance of any requirment to make use of them.

Solution – sign an SPL quality team to get through the lower leagues

Dunno about the other two TDs but mine was because they’re not paying a man on the dole £5K per week, he’s presumably not on the dole anymore (otherwise the Benefots gency should be told!). They could well be paying a man that scored 18 goals in 30-odd games £5k a week.

If we know one thing about Rangers Old or New, it’s that they don’t know how to structure a contract…

  26. If as , posted before that M Mols said the players were not to blame for the EBT trouble it was the guy doing the contracts at ragers at that time ,surely someone thought to ask M Mols who set up his contract at Ibrokes .
The line “it will benefit the club and you ” is very interesting ,is it not .

As for players getting signed for big money on long term deals ,where have we saw that before
Step forward the MBB and look how that turned out .

IMO the ragers fans better be careful they don’t get duped again ,Bomber was right the ragers fans are seen as a cash cow but not only by the SPL .

If you ask me Ticketus are deeply involved in this and I would not like to be close by when the ragers fans find out .

Outstanding post. The calls for BRTH to be given a guest post are justified of course, i think we all enjoy reading such articulate, factual and humouress musings and an opening post would be greatly received. However, i would hope a position could be found soon to ask DP ( or yojimbo ) to fill with their views on what happened at their club. It would help to show that there are different rfc mindsets out there compared to the rabble rousing arrogance of bomber and sally. It also highlights the all inclusive nature of the blog, and hopefully a larger number of decent fans like DP, Yojimbo or onx3 can find a common place to discuss a new beginning away from the poison of rfc minded blogs.

There does appear to be a few more rfc fans on here than on RTC, and hopefully they continue to post in the manner they have so far. RFC fans are conspicuous by their disproportionate representation on here.

    Understandable i suppose.

Correct. All that matters is cash.Lots of it and quickly. Problem is, he will need a sell out crowd at every home game, in every competition to come even close to covering their current outlay

It ain’t gonna happen, and then the fun will begin

  29. IMO I think that we have all been sold a dummy by the SFA, SPL and SFL. How can THRFC afford to sign these players, why because they are confident that there will be reconstruction which will see them in the SPL after only one year.

The players they have signed have signed on this basis, we have statements/comments from TRFC that they will be back in the big time quicker than anyone thinks.

We have agreements from TRFC to pay the football debts, was there a time limit for the payments to be made, I doubt it, it is simply an agreement that they would pay.
These debts should all have been met before the SFA membership was given.

We have agreements that they will accept the consequences arising from dual contracts and the FTT. Why then are TRFC being allowed to say that they will fight this all the way, with apparent impunity, as this directly contradicts there agreement with the SFA?

    Something stinks here.

  35. Esteemed posters, may I ask for some guidelines for the next few days, please? I am relatively busy at the present time, with a family wedding coming up, and one or two other time consuming issues to deal with (don’t ask!).

However, in the true Olympian spirit, I do not want to drop the baton (couldn’t resist that one!) in relation to our major current task regarding the future of Scottish Football.

In consequence, where do you all think I should focus (sorry again) my efforts over the next few days? Should I be writing to the SFA/SPL/SFL or none of them?

In passing, I never cease to be amazed by the whole revolving and revolting circus, but I am truly surprised that the Forces of Law & Order have taken (apparently) no interest whatsoever in any of the threatening and vituperative outpourings from the supporters of that new SFL3 team – sorry, what’s their name again?

  36. One thing about the players signing at the moment – they will be in a very strong position when they start agitating for wage rises after September 1st. Threatening to leave during the January transfer window will leave Sevco in deep manure, when replacements could not be signed.

  37. I heard keevins last night saying Trfc dont need to tool up ( his words ) with hardmen for div3. According to him Trfc will simply play around the cloggers of these wee teams. Rfc were hardly reknowned for silky fitba at ibroke never mind the depths of a peterhead winter, on a rutted, waterlogged surface, howling gale and no huge stands offering protection. Granted Trfc should win way more than they lose.

    But silky fitba.

With Dirk Clubfoot in the team.

    Naw.

  38. A few observations – and questions

How can Sevco afford these wages and the upkeep of Ibrokes – financially they are leeking vast amounts of cash – who is drip feeding them the cash – and what if any safeguards on financial probity of this organisation and the source of their cash have been sought by the SFA?

Murray has simply repeated his statements of March as have the Rangers Supporters trusts – the revelations about the undeclared payments and side letters appear to have been forgotten by the MSM – it is lamb munching of the worst variety. They are clearly desperate for business as usual – an Ibrokes club spending money it doesn’t have, DM being allowed to lie with no challenge and Rangers fans trying to bully us all.

The FTT should report soon and the SPL and Donkey need to explain why this has been allowed to drag for so long – I won’t hold my breath. The entire establishment and the vast majority of those who run the clubs are all – by their failure to act – complicit in the despicable law breaking and systematic cheating of RFC and all are guilty.

I am out now. I refuse to go to games or even look at results. To involve oneself in any way in Scottish football is to acquiesce and support organised corruption. Nothing less. The days when it was about supporting a football club are gone.

  42. Did the Ibrox Wages Dept issue players with a monthly payslip?
Did it contain details of those variable elements of pay like win bonuses allegedly paid through their EBT?
Cos if it did there must have been regular two way traffic between Ibrox and the Jersey Trust to ensure that the monthly EBT “loans” squared with what was due to each EBT player

I can`t imagine players contacting the Trust in Jersey with payslip queries about “non contractural loans”
That must have been done direct with the Wages Dept If so it implicates them in processing “non contractural” payments that followed a set of contracturally agreed rules
One wonders if any of the people managing the salary process will be prosecuted for tax evasion?

Or could they plead that they were simply following orders?

  50. Danish Pastry.

Thanks and i take your point on yojimbo.

I understand your circumstances having read all your posts, but i still feel that there are a large number of people like you, who for honourable reasons, feel a natural affinity for a blue team in govan but have been totally disenfranchised from the brand due to distasteful ethics. Yojimbo represents ( i feel ) the decent fan who attends despite misgivings, but i feel your voice can speak to the large numbers like yourself who love football but have fallen away from scotlands tribal fusion of football and religion. Thats new money into the game.

If the mob at brechin are the future then i wish them nothing but pain, but i genuinely want a big rival in glasgow, even from govan, even in blue but recognised as new and more importantly, clean, to challenge my big club and push the whole game in scotland forward, in the name of sporting competitiveness only. This can be a club that can draw guys like yourself, yojimbo and onx3 who shouldnt have to choose to give up the game or love a club with ethics they dont share.

Alex McLeish – “if a guy turns up looking for medals he’ll get a right hander”.Yeah right Alex. These people really believe they won those trophies fair and square.Talk about being in denial. If its proven there was illegal payments being made then the authorities should strike those titles from the record. The peepil might not like it but as Sergeant Major ‘Shut Up’ Williams would say, Oh Dear,How Sad, Never Mind.

  56. The line “it will benefit the club and you ” is very interesting ,is it not

  57. Surely the key to this is to simply follow the money……..
Ticketus are very very quiet at the moment, too quiet IMO

  58. The BBC represented by Chic Young is currently promoting Ibrox season tickets ‘for this incredible journey, this opportunity now extended to Friday!’

Perhaps I should turn it off before I lose the plot entirely.

  59. Chico telling us that it is almost a full house at Ipox and sending a message to the SFA.

  60. Another giant killing opportunity for Phoenix Rangers tonight. Hope East Fife don’t get done over by the diddy team !!

  61. Given the integrity shown by Spartans during this whole saga, it is superb to see them say thanks for the suport of SPL and SFL clubs by offering discounted season tickets.

A thank you offer from Spartans for supporting our game this season

Posted on Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

As we reach the end of a summer filled with encouragement from across the country to support our national game, we would like to reward anyone who has bought a season ticket to support their SPL or SFL side.

We’ve heard of fans from across the country buying up season tickets, sometimes even when they are unlikely to make it to many games. Now is the time that all clubs in Scotland need support from their fans to help grow our game at every level.

With that in mind we’re delighted to offer a half price Spartans season ticket for anyone who has bought a season ticket for any SPL or SFL side for the 2012/13 season. The offer means an adult season ticket can be bought for a bargain of £25 while a concession season ticket is just £12.50.

Anyone who buys a season ticket from the gate or directly from the Spartans Academy can get this exclusive 50% discount if they bring along and show their SPL or SFL season ticket for the season ahead.

The offer is available from tomorrow night (Wednesday 8th August) when we take on Coldstream at Ainslie Park in the League Cup Qualifying Group, kick off at 7.30pm.

That is why I left a Ticketus repay row in my wage calculator spreadsheet as Im not convinced they do walking away.

    Auldheid,
Would you be so kind to re-post the wage calc SS? Apologies if posted already, however my laptop search abilities seems to be very limited!

    Thanks
    Dunman

Maybe someone could do a regularly edited ‘post’ containing a collection of links that are/were regularly requested on rangerstaxcase? That way, when we want to refer to particular document we could just go to a single source.

  63. Spartans? Integrity?

Not applying to the SFL at the same time as Sevco Scotland?

    Don’t think so

  64. Can HMRC arrest the account described here by Lord Hodge ❓

”The Agency Agreement contains a mechanism by which Rangers as Ticketus’ agent is to sell the STA tickets and hold the proceeds in a designated account on behalf of its principal.”

Do you think Charlieboy will have it in a shortie tin in his office already?

  66. Be interesting to see the programme for tonight’s match at Ibrox for the first game ever played there by the new club called ‘the rangers’ will the roll of honour show all the trophies won in the past 140 years by a completely different entity? If so if I was connected to any football club owed money by this earlier incarnation or any creditor owed money or cheated by them I would look at that roll of honour I would look at the same manager I would look at the same colour of shirts I would look at the old ‘third Lanark jerseys’ in the crowd ie the ones with the 5 stars(spotted a few worthies wearing them in town tonight en route to the big match!!!)I would then in all honesty say this is the same club yet they are supposedly paying £5-6k a week for new players while keepin internationals on even higher earnings while they cannot afford to pay The newsagent Rapid Vienna Hearts Celtic etc This is outrageous would it happen in any other country in the civilised world?! Rapid Vienna if you have not already done so appeal to UEFA to investigate this stinking mess, UEFA why are you sitting on your backsides ignoring this completely preposterous unfair chain of events unfold before your very eyes?! We can all speculate the legalities of what’s happening what may happen and what is most likely to happen but right now we are being completely duped as football whether it’s at a lower level or not is being played right now by Rangers at Ibrox according to every MSM source today… It makes you despair!!

Jonny, yes both the club and the player “won”.

The point a lot of people miss is that not only was no PAYE accounted for on the payments made via an EBT but RFC, being the employer, didn’t have to account for employer’s NIC which was during the period between 11% and 13% of the gross salary.

The EBT payments were circa £65M, the income tax saved was £50M but on top of that the company saved itself a further £10-15M in employer’s NIC.

That is because it would have had to have paid the players over £100M gross to get them the net pay they otherwise took home.

Shame on Rangers, shame on David Murray, shame on the MSM for treating tonight like one big party.

Listening to BBC Shortbread it’s the most enthusiastic they’ve been about Scottish football in a long time – normal service resumed, a “unique treble achievable this season”, “a heap of quality players being assembled”….

Meanwhile the taxpayer and other creditors remain out of pocket to the tune of £134M, the songs of hate cascade from the stands, and lining up at left back is a player for whom they still owe £800,000 to another Scottish football club.

It’s not a bayonet that been taken to this club, it’s a pair of kid gloves, with probably a flute and a sash thrown in for good measure.

    Bangordub:

It’s always been about following the money.
From the outset Ticketus, as someone who was £27m down on the deal, have kept shtoom.
Now if it were you who had seen your cash go down the pan via the MBB and his business interests, would you just shrug your shoulders and limp off quietly to suck your thumb over in a darkened corner?
    Nah, didn’t think so.
The fact that Ticketus have said nada, zilch etc speaks volumes.
    Just wait and see.

Could not have put that better myself Slim .I heard C Young on BBC and he could not have been more delighted and it was Rangers this and Rangers that .
The only redeeming point was that without the football fans pressure this corrupt organisation would have been lording it up whilst sitting in the SPL
    Utter disgrace
