Hello

Welcome. As Mark Dickson suggested, this is a forum to discuss how the legacy of RTC can be honoured and continued.

The mechanics of how we move forward, if there is an appetite for it can be discussed freely.

Kicking off with no particular shopping list, I think that the key is that moderation is kept to a minimum, that people should by and large be encouraged to self moderate, and that the ethos put in place by RTC would be welcome.

In the post RTC era, I suspect that readership of any new blog will decrease. The consequence of that will hopefully be that there is less of what RTC called a fan site and therefore an easier to moderate situation.

I think that in the first instance, the site should look as close to RTC as possible to make people feel at home, but a name has to be found.

Suggested items for discussion;

Name for blog

Moderation policy

Moderation board members

Anything else 🙂

Below, there is a poll to consider which of the three most popular names mentioned so far should be chosen for the blog. I’ll let the poll run until 1900 hrs on Wednesday and we can move on from there to other more substantial matters.

  1. There’s been the word scrutiny mentioned a lot in the previous blogs: So I suggest:

    Scootish Football Scrutiny – SFS

  2. Good morning to all! There seems to be a spring gathering in your step after the hiatus of the last two or three days.

Now boys and girls, as my old mammy used to say, ” This lying about is all very well but it doesn’t get the work done!” The work is going to be important, as one only has to read the delusional Jabba this morning to understand what still confronts us.

An appropriate name is important and I feel we should honour the pathfinding work of the founder by calling it ‘The Spirit of RTC’.

  3. So Sevco Scotland Ltd has changed its name to The Rangers Football Club Ltd.

Meanwhile, Rangers Football Club, that’s the one that hasn’t changed its name (apart from adding ‘in adminstration’ and ‘in liquidaion’), has sold its ground and training facility and still clings on to its SPL share.

    Same club my a*se.

  4. A question for PL.

Do you (and other posters) intend to be open-minded about any issues that arise concerning Celtic FC ?
To discuss them without the simple counter-accusations of whataboutery.

I appreciate that this is a difficult issue for football supporters but if you want a blog that stands out from the rest then you need objectivity when considering matters and further investigating them.
Without it you become as bad as those you disparage.

A (para)phrase I have seen used a lot, “he´s a decent supporter of X because he offers a similar opinion to ours”.
The general opinion of a group of like-minded people isn´t necessarily the objective or correct one.
One sided opinion, whether it be stated eloquently or otherwise is just one sided opinion.

So is it to be an on-going check on Scottish football or RTC continued (policing RFC/MSM/Governing bodies and their interaction) ?

  5. What about No Stone Unturned (NSU). i.e. to exhaust every possibility in attempting to achieve one’s goal; spare no effort.

So our new tv deal means a loss of just 2m then? A decrease of just 13% on last season. Not exactly Armageddon is it?

    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You are too kind by far

The top official in Scottish Football stood up before all SFL chairmen and told them something that has now been proven beyond all doubt to be a barefaced lie

And he thinks nothing of it

  7. Infrequent poster. Wearing the St.Mirren colours.

Would be great to have all teams represented.

Does that mean Green (or his consortium) have now paid the £5 milll they agreed to now? Also did they pay all their salaries last month? I ask because I don’t know how to check this.

In all fairness. Scottish football hasn’t had an example (excluding Whyte) of using bucketloads of debt to purchase a club (and even with Whyte, there were mitigating circumstances in Rangers’ fall) and then using a share issue to try and pay off their individual debts (which is what the Glazers are intending to do – I read they each stand to profit to the tune of £25m on the share issue). United are simply a debt collecting club being used to consolidate the Glazers’ massive debts – they are, in essence, the vessel for turning x bills into one easy manageable monthly payment and the Glazers’ methods of doing this have turned United into a club that is far less sustainable than even Manchester City (albeit, City are probably the best community club in the world right now, which is a bizarre statement to make, all things considered!).

No club turns a profit enough in Scotland to be able to do that.

  10. I agree with those who doubt the wisdom of “succulent lamb” in the name of the blog. RTC became a brand name for a blog with integrity and relatively impartial intelligent analysis where all fans were welcomed. So as both a homage to RTC and with a view to retaining an element of that brand name, I think RTC should feature in the title.

  11. BBC Radio reported that Rangers Football Club PLC agreed to change their name, following an EGM where the shareholders of the former company voted in favour of the change.

Did this vote include the 83% shareholding held by Craig Whyte?

Interesting that this angle isn’t being picked up by MSM?

I take it that Craig must be in favour of this change?

  12. I’ve been thinking about this overnight and not convinced as to the ring of succulent lamb as a title. Reason ;that theme has had its day and is done to death. In addition ,as a title it does not suggest fresh beginnings..Sorry, so far I cannot give an alternative suggestion.

  13. My concern with ‘Succulent Lamb’ is that it gives the impression that the focus is on pro Rangers bias in the press and is therefore just another fan site. ‘Without fear or favour’ is the expression used by Doncaster or was it Regan to describe the so called impartiality of the Scottish football authorities. The blog should focus on scrutinising the application of the rules fairly for all clubs and as time will show the contrast with the non football authorities such as HMRC, the liquidators, the Police, the courts etc who are outwith the influence of the football blazerati and the MSM.

  14. By the number of times Regan mentioned “The Death Of Scottish Football” in that BBC interview yesterday (anyone got a link to the STV one?) I feel like I was onto something.

Admittedly, it does rather prejudge the matter a little bit. But, with the insertion of a question mark that is completely resolved!

  15. I liked the suggestion,’Beyond Armageddon’ which, if you take the biblical notion of the messiah slaying the beast ,or antichrist, would be apt metaphorically.

We do have fresh beginnings and in contributors like Danish and Yojimbo, we have fans embracing the new dawn, the sunrise on the turnstile.

I think we all have a chance to see things differently. ‘insteid o’ jist the usual’

A certain poster may want to open a thread devoted the love affair he has with The Balvenie. As Morrisons had a fiver knocked off The Doublewood I gave into temptation and curiosity. Very nice but not quite converted from Laphroaig Quarter Cask. If anyone is interested Sainsbury’s has one third knocked off all varieties of Glenmorangie. Brings a £40 whisky down to £27.

  17. Firstly Id like to thank the guys behind the continuation of the RTC theme it is a necessary tool in keeping up to date with what’s going on in the world of Scottish Football.

I read a tweet from Phil Mc today in which he posted the liquidation of RFC that was dated 1st August (today), what exactly does that mean in terms of Sevco , are they now called Rangers FC
do they still retain the history of the old club or will the SFA treat them as a new club.

  18. Im happy to let others decide a name for the blog, but before we get too wrapped up in post after post about a name can we get something moving to get back on track.
    Where are we now?
Has green paid over his money?
Will they be awarded membership this week?
What could still stop that from happening?
    Where is whyte, Smith, souness,
What will the outcome of the dual contract investigation bring?
Can and Will creditors go after the New same name, same brand, same premises The Rangers?
We need some debate started to get the juices flowing from the posters who have some real knowledge who will give us some early direction to encourage posters to keep coming back for more news/views on where we now are.

  19. I am away on holiday tomorrow[dubai to visit my daughter]so hopefully will be able to keep up with the new blog over there although my wife might have something to say about time spent on the web.So good luck to everyone keep up the good fight and i will report back for duty on the 19th.Hope sell out saturday is a massive success and maybe then the guardian’s of our game will shut up with the negative c**p about our game.

The bbc had on thier site last night that companie’s house said that sevco can’t use The rangers football club limited.Might be wrong but that’s what it said

  21. As BDO get their feet under the desk today. How long before they start asking for money from Pretendygers on behalf of the creditors. After all they are just the same (well so they insist). Therefore I would start with money received for Jelavic and any other cash received from say the SPL.

  22. TT
I think it obvious that this will be a continuation of RTC.

But it shouldn´t pretend to be anything other then a mostly one-sided view on affairs and that real objectivity will be scarce.
Don´t confuse well constructed posts with objectivity.

In the first few months of RTC there was tangible objectivity within what was the remit of the blog.
This was because of a smaller number of posters having a lot of material and leads to work on and a will to be accurate with what they subsequently found.
Obviously it was accompanied with one-sided banter but a lot of the actual details given was objective.

Since the turn of the year this changed and the blog became much more like other sites as the detective work dried up somewhat.
Any awards the blog received was really for 2011.

If TSFM was ambitious and seeked some originality he´d should try to go down the neutral road, however difficult that may be.

  23. I think as someone posted yesterday the new blog should have the initials RTC in it. Im not sure on what to call it however that would tie in with having those particular letters.

I would rather this stayed a blog than moved to a forum of any sort with multiple threads – the beauty of this is there is a single running thread of opinion and news. There are plenty of forums we are all members of.

If we can come up with an inclusive name there is no reason that blog contributions could not be asked for – from Jim Spence to Paul McConville or someone thats just posting on here to someone with their own brilliant but under read blog – and even RTC him/herself- or reps from the various clubs etc. There are so many intelligent people out there and so many different strands to Scottish football there is no reason this could not be turned into somewhere to bring the most inventive and intelligent minds to throw up ideas and opinions – the best of these tend to come from the fans. At the moment there are various blogs and posters that I tend to find by luck that like the RTC blog are way ahead of the MSM that many people will never read or hear.

  25. Have I missed something but can anyone answer the following?

1 What was the name of the club that was given conditional membership of the SFA on 27th July? Rangers FC Ltd still have membership (it has not yet been transferred) and did not change their name to RFC 2012 until an EGM on 30th July. Sevco did not become The Rangers Football Club (SC425159) until 31 July? What will the official records show were the participating clubs in this SFL cup tie?

2 What club were the participating players registered with and when did this take place?

3 Have the SFA now provided FIFA with an answer to the question of withholding international clearance to players? Have they provided the necessary clearance as the players appear to be registered with their new clubs?

4 If Rangers FC Ltd held an EGM did the majority shareholder vote? Why would the majority shareholder vote for a proposition that would facilitate a name switch if this vote was against his interest unless of course The Rangers Football Club Ltd are honouring the contract with Ticketus and removing any potential personal liabilty?

The very fact that the SFA membership involves a transfer means that we are dealing with two distinct corporate identities in Rangers FC Ltd (now RFC 2012) and The Rangers Football Club Ltd. The transfer is only allowed on the basis that the sanctions that applied to the previous membership must still apply otherwise any football club would have a loophole to escape any SFA sanction by becoming a new corporate identity whilst retaining membership. It does not mean that there is a seamless continuation of membership and therefore history. Listen carefully to the reply Regan to Daly of the BBC. That’s what he said in his usual mumbling fashion, he doesn’t want to get involved in the ‘same history’ argument because he is in a lose/lose situation. However if the SFA continue to dodge this question hoping that the media and common usage will mahe it go away they’ve got a problem with UEFA’s record keeping of club histories which is more compliant with the legal reality.

  26. If suggestions for a name are still being put up, how about ‘I Have A Dream’ the song that John Gordon Sinclair sang, I think written by BA Robertson, as Scotland’s World Cup song way back in the days when we actually got to the finals. It is also the opening line from one of Dr Martin Luther King’s greatest speeches, surely the greatest example of a call for equality, dignity and integrity ever, something we’ve all been calling for on RTC! We all dared to dream of these qualities being shown in the handling of the Rangers debacle, and through the efforts of many an internet bampot, that dream came closer to reality than any of us dared hope for. It has the advantage of being completely neutral and welcoming for even those fans of RFC who dare to dream of a time that their club might be welcomed into the SPL by everyone.

An alternative might be ‘The Mice Roared’ or ‘And Then The Mice Roared’ as recognition to the brave and dignified stand taken by so many of the ‘wee teams’ in the SFL and a reminder to us all that we should never forget their contribution.

  27. Question: Did the SPL not say there would be a statement this week on the dual contract enquiry?

    Has a statement been released?

  28. Nice to have an option akin to RTC. I went for Scottish Football Monitor in the poll since it should embrace the other two.

I take your point TT, but on the other hand I think ‘Succulent Lamb’ captures the crucial point: that the establishment in toto appeared, over a period of time, to lose the capacity to ask awkward but vital questions. At the same time, explicit reference to RTC in the title might risk narrowing the (perceived) focus and audience of the blog. (Although of course nobody should be in any doubt about RTC’s parenthood!)

If we want this to be a space where the awkward questions are asked; where serious technical expertise is brought to bear on them; and where this applies to all, without fear or favour, then ‘Succulent Lamb’ seems like as pithy a summation of that as we’re likely to find.

  30. Doh’ Iam not sure what happened there but the beyond armageddon weblink above was posted by me 🙂

  31. Suggestion for title-

    More Equal than Others?

A doff of the bunnett to RTC’s Orwell prize and the question mark depicting the scrutiny of bloggers- that all officials and media outlets will be scrutinised for any unfair treatment. All clubs must be treated equally/fairly.

Also thought it would be a good title for RTC’s book-sans QM

  32. I dont know how anybody can even think of Succulent Lamb as a name. When I here this name all i can think of is that fat waste of space Jabba. Somebody suggested Integrity Bampots,Sound good.

They will not change, they are ra peepil and the longer they are allowed to get away with their song book the more vile they will become.

Is any action going to be taken for the well recorded songs at Brechin?

If Regan has a plan for the reform of Scottish Football he should include a section on the SFA itself and start from the inside out.

  37. Hi all – on the subject of name, I really like the idea of Scottish Football Monitor. It envisages a bigger possibility than even the struggle for justice to be served on Rangers.

But I also want something that still focuses on Rangers specifically – and makes a statement about them specifically – because they have not gone away, and are unlikely to soon.

So maybe an additional site to Scottish Football Monitor could be set up – one specialising in the RTC core subject matter.

I suggest it could be called:

    Rangers Post Mortem

  38. RTC is now an established and repected ‘brand’.

It would be crazy imo to dump the title completely at this stage – the implementation and ramifications of the decisions made by various bodies (HMRC, FTT etc) must be paramount.

To this end I propose a simple:

    RTC2 or RCTwo

A more appropriate name for a general blog should be considered in a year or two.

  39. Barcabhoy’s twin posts this morning on RTC read more as a blog than postings (as someone astutely pointed out). Impressive stuff.

They could be a very fitting intro blog for this continuation of the Internet Bampots.

  40. The opportunity here is to take up the baton and build upon what RTC has started. I think nearly 400 comments! (nb:Not Hits) in a few days proves that there is an appetite for what RTC has started but this is not RTC.
It is a question of building on the legacy of RTC and shaping the future of Scottish Football (and I’m not a Scot btw). At least that’s what I believe unites the majority of posters here.

  41. I hope the newco blog gets accepted, but will still use points raised by RTC for years to come.
I feel we still have a long way to go in satisfying the Fans from many many Clubs appetite for fairness.
It will not be long till the new season starts and the Spl,Sfa and Sfl will try and dampen things down and hope all will be forgotten.
We cannot allow this to happen if we want a warts and all conclusion.VIVE LE RTC !!!

Do you think the SFA itself actually knows the answers to all of those questions? Or is it just bluffing and muddlng through?

  48. Avid reader at RTC, but never felt sufficiently knowledgeable to post. I’m glad that some of the key contributors there now recognise the need for continued vigilance and pressure – with people (fans, management, media) out there still claiming to be “Rangers”, only now even more better than the rest of you (i.e. no debts), it is vital that there is no hiding place for favours in darkened rooms.

Re a title for the new site, I believe it’s wrong to steal the cachet of RTC (while acknowledging his/her magnificent input), so I like ‘Without fear or favour’. It’s what we want from the guardians of our game, from the MSM etc.

  55. If Oldco and Newco are the same club, then why the requirement to transfer their license. The membership, registrations and licences are granted by the Scottish FOOTBALL Association. Not the Scottish Football Corporate Club Owners Association.

    Or am I too simplistic?

  56. Subjects that have been quiet if not completely ingonred & non-existent in the MSM

    > Why has nobody questioned Bain & McClelland about their roles on the SPL management board and if they withheld or revealed any information to the SPL management board or fellow SPL clubs about Rangers EBT payments and/or anything about how Rangers players were being registered during the EBT period. This a glaring failure of governance within the SPL and something Topping, Doncaster & Blair should be demanding answers on – was the SPL systematically mislead by Rangers officials and did they fail to fulfill their roles properly in upholding the rules of the organisation? Surely charges of failing to act in utmost good faith towards the SPL board and member clubs must be brought against Rangers for this?

    > Why is nobody demanding answers from Souness or Smith about EBT payments they received long after leaving Rangers? And if they received post-employment payments then did other ex-managers like Advocaat, McLeish or Le Guen? If they did then how much and when and why?

    > Why is nobody asking Doncaster for a detailed explanation and & definite timetable to bring the dual contracts / ebt enquiry to a conclusion?

    > In view of the massive hostility generated and subsequent rejection of their plans to parachute Sevco/Rangers into a higher level can either Regan or Doncaster confirm that there will be no future such attempts to gerrymander Rangers into a higher division or league placing than they have earned except by results on the pitch?

What I can’t understand is why Oldco have been able to hold on to the share until now, should this not have been taken back straight away by the SPL board. I still don’t see why Dundee are waiting until Friday for this to become official.
It surprises me that Green is transferring the Oldco SFA license over and he thinks Rangers are still the same as always and this hasn’t been challenged. Could the Oldco administrators not claim that they still had the SPL share and sold it to Green as they did with the players and challenge the fact that they should not have needed to apply to play in the SPL as they were already a member.
I really can’t get my head round why we are still waiting until Friday for all of this to be completed, could this be part of the hold up?
As I said at the start I’m not the brightest so could somebody please explain this to me!

  64. I’ve just received an email from the Herald’s digital editor announcing the return of Graham Spiers to the fold. It says:

“First off: a genuine football scoop! As the Scottish game enters uncharted territory, with Rangers demoted to the Third Division and virtually every club facing financial uncertainty, we’ve pulled off a major close-season signing of our own.

From this week, Graham Spiers etc, etc”

I’ve just sent them an email in return as follows:

Small point – Rangers weren’t ‘demoted’. They went bust, came back in the dubious guise of a new company, and were – controversially, given that they fulfilled few of the conditions – offered admission to the Scottish Football League in the bottom tier. The mainstream media’s credibility with regard to this story is at breaking point, and a failure to use the correct language when reporting the story is one reason why. Spiers affects boredom with this point of view, but getting the terminology right is critical for a proper understanding of all that’s gone on in the last wee while.
